Game Gear version.
Graphics/Sound:
I liked the graphics very much, as the Game Gear is really capable of presenting some nice graphics. The soundtrack has a weird Zelda 1 kind of vibe to it.
It's a vertical shmup, but with some unique elements. First off you are only allowed to let a certain amount of enemies pass you. Each enemy that passes to the bottom counts toward a damage in percent to earth's defense. It's basically making mandatory what usually shmup players try to achieve usually, and that is to shoot down every enemy that passes the screen. I also liked the powerup system. While there is no choice of different weapons, I still like how all the powerups look like ship parts and fit well into the game world. You can collect up to 4 sidekicks which you can decide to launch towards your enemies as a missile at any point, but you might also lose them when they get hit. The game also has a kind of overworld map where it shows you where exactly you are, which I found nice for the immersion.

I didn't find this a particularly hard shmup. There is also this weapon level penalty when getting hit, thus making it even easier for you to get hit again, but it didn't have to much of a problem with it.
Conclusion:
I liked this very much, even though the gameplay in the end isn't very revolutionary. It's just a solid shmup, I recommend it to anyone that likes the genre.
Damn, how did they make a shmup this good on the Game Gear? Definitely give this one a spin, if you're into shmups and/or the Game Gear. This is a vertical space shooter that plays great and looks great (for the Game Gear, obviously). You have the expected power-ups to collect and use against all the enemy spacecrafts, comets, asteroids, and giant bosses. What makes this one stand out is that you really need to destroy all the enemies you can, because if they pass you they attack Earth. There is a number in the corner indicating how much damage the planet has taken. If that reaches 100, the Earth is officially destroyed, and you get a game over. Getting a high score will help repair the planet between levels.
