We're Back!: A Dinosaur's Story is different from it's Genesis counterpart. This version features character's from the movie, but does not follow the storyline of the movie. In this version, Professor Screw Eyes has kidnapped Louie and Cecilia. Hearing of this, Captain Neweyes and the dinosaurs launch into action to save their friends by traveling through various time periods. The gameplay is a side-scroller that has the player take control of Rex, traveling throughout the levels avoiding traps and defeating various enemies scattered throughout the stages (five in all). Terrible Controls, But Lots Of Nostalgia, Since We Didn't Have Many Games At My Dad's. This Was One
This review is for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version

Preliminary: This has an unfair advantage compared to the games released around its time, because it was one of the few games we owned at my dad's so it was one I would play a lot. Tho I never made it to the end lol I think the parade level was the farthest? So I tended to actually play Super Mario All Stars and Super Mario World more, but this had that effect people talk about where back in those days you only had so many games you owned so you'd get to know them in an intimate way. Kind of like demo discs you replayed over and over or the early parts of games you'd rent over and over from the store.

Wow the controls in this are pretty bad lol and the way the camera moves with you. And the level design is quite questionable already. But gosh do I immediately remember every detail of this first level :-p So much nostalgia. Will probly arbitrarily boost it to a 3 even if the Play continues to be tihs bad

Day 2

Day 2

Okay yea there are a lot of faults here lol. As many reviews noted, there are bad collision masks, bad mechanics, and illogical level design. At least there's the feature of changing dinosaurs for their different features. And at least there is both a projectile you can use and you can jump on enemies.

I really wanted to quit in the first level. That pile of barrels was really accentuating the gameplay faults , why they would have something like that so early is beyond me. But I eventually got past it lol. The Look is quite nice, and of course the nostalgia.

Ahhh yes the Subway level. Okay this was neater. As frustrating as it was, the train was an exciting feature to it. Kinda like that one skating game that had a train occasionally come and for some reason Mortal Kombat comes to mind like the lower areas you could be hit into.

Bahaha wow that Subway level was much easier than I remember. And a good tune after the first boss. Maybe this will be worth at least getting to the point I used to. Or gasp getitng to the end and politely giving a 3 star (during the first level I was very tempted to give 2 star, despite being a childhood favorite, and move on).

Oooo a better tune in this construction area too.

I always liked the Look of the Parade levels but gosh, I got my glasses lenses replaced today, and the way the camera moves with you plus the movement of the background is making me very nauseous :-X

Ahhh I totally know what part I could never get past. When the purple balloon you're supposed to ride across the long stretch of spikes at the end of the Parade level. I didn't realize if you jump, it'll go back up, allowing you to ride it through the whole strethc. I used to try to outrun my death lol and would sometimes barely see The End sign. Feeling so close!

Welp I got past the Parade Balloon boss. I should consider myself donde cuz this is quite bad lol. But... here I go.

The Central Park episodes went real quickly, nice fun and intuitive even if a bit inocuous. Based on a playthrough video, I'm about halfway now. Hmmm

Another positive is that you can jump on projectiles, even fireballs lol, but I always like when you can hit away enemy projectiles somehow.

Welp I finished the Circus boss and it'[s time for music time then dinner. I suppose I might as well finish it after dinner tho it surely wont earn above a 3 star.. I guess just to appease my childhood. (nice turns out there's just the final area and boss left)

Yeahhh nah. I finally called it quits on the Empire State level. It's just so bad lol.

Look: 7.5/10 Extra boost from nostalgia and the colors

Sound: 6.5/10

Play: 6.5/10

Feel: 7.5/10

Attachment: 7.5/10 I mean, here I am after all. And got to the second-to-last level...

Overall: 7.1/10

Completion: Partway through Empire State level, I was sick of having to find the exact pixel spot to climb up the walls, not an actual challenge, just mindnumbing tedium

Playtime: ~1 hour
