GayBlade is a video game developed by Ryan Best and released in 1992. It has been thought to be the earliest LGBT-themed video game, but was preceded by 1989's Caper in the Castro. In the 2020 Netflix documentary, High Score, Ryan Best claimed that the game was lost as he misplaced the masters to the game. The game was later found with the help of the LGBTQ Video Game Archive. The player has to fight hordes of enemies including rednecks and homophobes. The final boss of the game is conservative commentator and politician Pat Buchanan.

And still, who cares as long as I keep staying engaged with it, even if it is just superficially/arbitrarily LGBT and hey it has you fight enemies of our community sooo. I'm just nervous cuz CRPGAddict claims the gameplay of DragonBlade is terrible and, therefore, so is that of GayBlade. (See the post here)

Well this definitely really only deserves a 2. The dungeon crawling is quite bad, , it's unclear when you are at the end of a hall and should turn to the doorway, lots of the enemies aren't reskinned. But all that being said, when the enemies are reskinned it's great, the humor and equipment are good, and the colors are great for the main screen. Gotta give it an arbitrary 3 just to remember it as an early LGBT game, even if the gameplay ain't great. I killed a few enemies so at least there's …
