killerstar's review of NanoApostle

This is a neat boss rush game. It's got some neat mechanics that build up into more complex strategies than just mashing attack and interesting visuals. The final boss has some issues unfortunately, like the fact that its attacks are the same shade of green as yours so when there are a a lot of stuff going on it's impossible to see what it's doing. It also has one very bullshit attack that seems to break previous rules making it almost impossible to parry reliably.

There is a story and a couple of characters. It doesn't amount to much but it's not bad.

Way to deflate my enjoyment with a bullshit surprise 3rd phase in the last boss. Every single boss had 2 phases and this one just recovers all its health and continues along like nothing. Not even a cool cinematic or a slight change.

I was having a lot of trouble with the 5th boss. The graphics looked murky and everything was hard to see. Then I had to move my laptop so I disconnected the second screen and had to use the build-in one... it was night and day. Suddenly I could see! I defeated it in the next try.

I need to get myself a better screen.

Fought the first two enemies and it was quite fun.

The game is good but the upgrade skill tree is generic and hardly usefull, the minor combinations of upgrades is also very meh stat boosts.(with extremist maxxing removing ur healing entierly, but thats the only thing that does that)

The bossfights are good but they quickly become a tank-fest (at least with the last two). There are also obstacle courses and small enemy gauntlets but they are pretty useless after u complete 3 of them for having all the upgrade points (since u can re-spec them) The story is incredible generic and skippable. As for bugs sometimes skipping cutscenes speeds up the bossfight until u die superfast, but fixes after dying. Overall enjoyable but very flat and one directional
