Vallejo's review of Code of the Samurai
This review is for the PlayStation 2 version

Hooooo man, this one is a doozy.

I don't know, but people smarter than me probably have written about the large but apparently undetected shadow that Onimusha set upon the PS2 games of the early 00s. This is definitely not like Onimusha but also not UNLIKE Onimusha. I remember this being an unremarkably fun weekend game for when you do not want to tackle that big JRPG that is being haunting your backlog for years. It was a nicely spent twenty hours.

The gameplay was fun but got repetitive very fast. It was a nice concept this Samurai-meets-Crypt of the Necrodancer game and it's based on the Shinsegumi era (fellow refugees from Samurai X unite) so for me it was a really nice time, but I marvel at how forgotten seems to be nowadays. It is one of those games that highly likely will be lost forever in a couple of years (87% of games before 2010 are lost, holy shirt that's depressing).
