Bulk Slash is a short but sweet Japan-only mecha action game which I played via an English fan translation dub. Right away, I was impressed by its colorful visuals, energetic music, and the fun feel of its gameplay.
The game’s 7 stages are pretty small and quick, and each contains a few objectives to complete followed by a boss fight. The different level and encounter designs encourage you to switch between a walking mech mode and a flying ship mode, and each is pretty fun and surprisingly easy to get a grip on with multiple useful combat options.
Each stage also has a recruitable companion who will call out directions and warnings for you. I found these characters somewhat mixed in how much I liked them, and some of the repeated voice lines can get a little annoying, but they can add some nice extra personality to the game.
I liked all but the final stage, which was a little annoying for various reasons. It’s hard to complain much about anything though, since this was a concise yet varied game that was mostly really fun.
