The graphical style is gorgeous, the animations are lovely and funny, and represent the source material flawlessly. There is now also an overworld map that lets you select levels, but there is always just one direct next level. Buster can now run like Sonic but there is some pretty humorous objects getting in the way if you do.
Disliked:
The world is divided in 5 or so thematically different worlds, which sounds like a fine idea, but unfortunately it's hard to tell the levels within a world apart, which makes a lot of the game a bit repetitive until you reach a boss battle. The controls were a bit better in the NES title without that much inertia but it's still manageable.
Summary:
It's again a solid entry in the series, with its strong point definitely being the graphics. In total this feels a bit unpolished, especially in comparison to the SNES release. It's feels like Konami put their top developers usually on the SNES project and left the Genesis games to the B-Team, as many times the SNES ended up with the better game (with Sparkster being an exception). So while this has some nice ideas, they usually haven't been fully thought through it seems, and the level design is overall a bit repetitive. Nevertheless that's not to say it's bad. It's definitely a good game, but not Konami's best.
