I'm slowly by surely learning to play this theme on keyboard and I'm delighted. It's a tune that transports me to my childhood, dying repeatedly on this game.
Tonight thanks to steam "demo party" I tried a game called NERVE (not on grouvee yet, since it's not out) which again reminded me of SkyRoads. And I liked it quite a bit!
This is a whole new genre of games that I didn't know I liked it! In fact, it's a genre I wouldn't have thought I would like. I usually don't like overly-punishing games in which you die repeatedly. But for some reason (nostalgia?) now I've played two that I really like. (A third one, Race the Sun, I played years ago and didn't like, since it removes any sense of progression, respawing takes ages, and there are whole system of points and plane customisation that is just clutter).
Slowly but steady, I'm reliving my childhood. Although now emulating DOS on an Android phone instead of running the game in a bulky PC with CTR monitor.

After being disappointed by Nirvana Pilot Yume I decided I had to go back to the proper SkyRoads. But for some reason I wanted to play it as a handheld. So I downloaded a DOS emulator for android, got SkyRoads directly from the developer's ten-year-old webpage and set it up so I could play it with a bluetooth controller.
It's awesome. hearing that intro music gives me chills.
I have absolutely no idea what prompt my brain to suddenly remember about a game set in space with obstacles. I remember playing it a lot when I was young but I had no idea what was called. So I googled "video game space run obstacles old" and the first image result was the correct game!
Thanks, google!
