My Fave FPS, 26: MAG
Hey Atag, if you're reading this, I just saw your post on the MAG page. I'm one of the people who played this game!
This is one of the great FPS tragedies, along with Dust 514. Dust was a great idea with a lot of depth that played like dogshit. So, not a good game. MAG, on the other hand, was a great game, even with a generic title. As it says on the Grouvee page, this offered battles with 256 people. On a console! PS3, no less. For people like me who hadn't played something like PlanetSide (I came to it with the second), it was a truly novel concept. Hell, it's still rather novel.
It didn't get amazing reviews. Some critics said that there were technical issues, but I played it at the time and didn't notice anything too egregious. Mind you, I'm a lot more forgiving than some people because I find the incessant whining about little glitches that some people do really boring. But even if I concede that it was messy, it still felt good to play, and that's what mattered.
I wish MAG could have another life, especially now. …

I wish MAG could have another life, especially now. We do get games (like the aforementioned Planetside) with constant battles like this, but I have a soft spot for MAG.
Did anyone ever play this back when it came out? Something reminded me of it today and I releasied that I never got to experience it myself. I remember all my friends talking about how big the matches were, hundreds of players even? on PS3? It sounded impossible at the time.
I was just getting into battlefield at the time, really wish I got to check it out - sounds like it was rather special as far as FPS games go.
