Gunhouse (2014)

This is a weird game. The basic premise is you need to defend your house from all sorts of wacky attackers. Some look like ice cream trucks, some a weird flying monsters, and others are skeleton dudes on foot trying to steal orphans from your house.

Sounds weird, it is.

Your line of defense is guns and bombs. You play a rather crappy match 4, 6, 9, slider game to get ammo for guns and bombs. The bigger blocks you make the more powerful guns, more ammo, and bigger bombs.

I had fun for a little while blasting enemies in the early levels, getting money from their fallen exploded bodies, and using it to upgrade my weapons and health.

I did this for awhile and got three level four guns which I thought would be powerful enough to take out later level enemies. Turns out my weak guns did the same amount of damage.....really stupid. In fact they did worse. So basically it doesn't matter if you upgrade weapons. I thought a weapon you bought in the store would be level 1 and be less powerful than your upgraded artillery. That rubbed me the wrong way.

I blasted stupid chipmunk looking creatures in the face over and over again with level 4 guns but they barely did anything.

Getting back to the matching game. It's really lame and hard to control with the touch screen (it's even worse with the d pad). It's too complicated to get bigger guns in the time allotted (20 seconds).

So I'm sitting there trying to use the crappy matching system with not enough time and my guns are crap.

This game sucks. The only saving grace is a colorful and creative art direction. Either way don't play. I got this from PS+ back when they offered Vita games so at least I didn't buy it.

The devs tried to do too much and the matching game is atrocious.
