Jersey Devil, as the title implies, is loosely based upon the legendary New Jersey beast of the same name. Instead of the horrific beast the legend describes, the protagonist of the title is cute purple creature with long-ears and small wings. Dr. Knarf -- the villain of the piece -- has created a legion of mutated vegetables to do his evil bidding, and it falls to Jersey Devil to stop the maniacal scientist. To do this, the purple protagonist must venture through a series of 3D platform stages spread across themed environments such as a museum, cemetery, forest, and even a haunted house. Endowed with an ample set of abilities, Jersey Devil must jump, glide, and tail whip his way through the hordes of vegetables and undead minions, the latter comprising such mainstays as zombies, bats, and spiders. The controls and the camera on the other hand, needed improvement. The terrible hit detection and invisible holes make for many many deaths. It isn’t a hard game though so it’s …

The controls and the camera on the other hand, needed improvement. The terrible hit detection and invisible holes make for many many deaths. It isn’t a hard game though so it’s really not going to drive you totally off a cliff. It’s like the creators knew because the 1-ups are peppered in this thing like crazy! Worth playing if you want a relaxing platformer with some cute antics. Like a clunkier Crash Bandicoot without the difficulty.

You know when you start thinking back to old games you used to play and then you remember one that's been slipping your mind for months? Well Jersey Devil used to be a favourite of mine.

I love the Halloween theme and platforming, something about it captures 90s gaming really well. Anyone else ever play this?

The gameplay is simple enough, you jump and glide your way through each level in search of letters to complete a word all while you avoid or defeat enemies. Even though the idea is easy, it does come with some challenging puzzles and level designs to conquer.

The 1990's offers some of the greatest worlds in gaming but unfortunately this title, like so many, seems lost to time.

Highly recommended.
