Disappointing Focus On Difficulty After A Promising First Level

Preliminary: Welp, after the first stage (that boss was hard!), I know this will be a finisher :-p Intuitive, full of power-ups that are usable and even tho they go away at least you come upon enough to keep collecting, and fast-paced action fun. Hmmm from what I'm reading online there are either 5 or 8 unique levels? And to get through the third level is a feat... Oh boy I assume the difficulty increases a lot. I didn't have to use any savestates yet but I had one hit left ha. Omg how rude! And now I see, despite the Energy Left determining bonus points so you'd think it'd refill for next level.... IT STAYED AT 1 HIT. Boo. I'm definitely noticing the coin eating mechanics rise in 1987. But I'm over here launching grenades and with a Super Rifle 2 so I'm happy :)

Look: 7/10 Welp the 2nd level boss was much more manageable. But even then I hadn't really noticed much of a Look. Decent UI--a bit overwhelming, tho I blame the never-liked-by-me addition of a time limit and other petty things.. Good arcade-style sci-fi Look I suppose. I just wasn't blown away at any point. …

Decent UI--a bit overwhelming, tho I blame the never-liked-by-me addition of a time limit and other petty things.. Good arcade-style sci-fi Look I suppose. I just wasn't blown away at any point. The purple and background graphic of Level 3 was quite nice so hopefully it'll continue to get better/more noticable. The gameplay is so intense you kinda can't notice!

Sound: 7/10 Functional enough, very classic arcade vibe.

Play: 6/10 Grrrr forever spawning enemies. Let me run backward sometimes and deal with the enemies without them just respawning when I get back to the spot >.< If the game's gonna be this hard, I sure wish they'd let us shoot away enemy projectiles. Wowww, so not only does Energy not refill after finishing a level, but also when you die you're not at full health.... Silly.

Feel: 7/10 Hmmmm, what is that game that the collectible Letters reminds me of?! Maybe Jersey Devil but there's something more exact... is it Sonic? Yeaaaaa, even with the better background (shown here), I had no interest in pushing through level 3. It was just trying to be hard for hard's sake already. Too bad because I was ready for fun but challenging, not just "hehe let's make this hard!" enter image description here

Attachment: 6/10 Started strong, but quickly got too tedious and not-fun. The first 2 levels are solid enough! Heh. Even the "hard" parts were just more tedious (lining up landmines on step-based jumps while enemies that constantly respawn come at you, of course it's doable but I prefer something that challenges my timing or quick reactions, not a perpetual tedious climb past onslaughts of enemies). But yea, with platformer shooters being a beloved genre, and knowing there are many others out there, this won't be returned to. It had a lot of potential and maybe, I dunno, with some sort of cheat where you always have several of the power-ups it'd be fun. But as it is, even with savestates (since again, the tedium can't be savestated away... as well as the poorly-done Energy mechanic), nah. Coin eating mechanics are rising in arcade games, perhaps this is why I didn't click with them as much as a kid. It's too bad cuz the 70s and early 80s really taught me to love and appreciate arcade games.

Completion: Part way through Level 3 Playtime: ~15 mins
