The game's structure is mission-based; most of the missions are dictated by the story and initiate following a cutscene that advances it. Failing a mission still allows the player to continue playing through the chapter and undertake subsequent missions; in some cases this will lead to branching paths and optional missions. However, in order to complete the whole chapter the player must eventually succeed in all the main missions. Read less

Had a really good time coming back to this game. Was fun unlocking abilities and upgrades. I also liked the licensed music. I think this is probably the first game I played that had a morality system, which was used in a pretty neat way. Based on morality and actions you take in missions, you can get put down different story routes. The different gameplay elements are a bit clunky, but none of them overstayed their welcome so the variety was appreciated. The driving, precision aiming, and hand-to-hand combat are pretty not good, but I liked them well enough. I think the story leaves a lot to be desired, the fantasy elements came out of nowhere and the final antagonist was so detached from the rest of the story, the pay off did not feel satisfying. My biggest complaint is the map. There isn't a way to zoom in and out, so it's hard to plan routes. There are also no waypoints outside of the minimap and those only appear when you are already close. I wish there was a way to place waypoints and I wish that important locations were marked on the map. This game is very much a product of its time, which is to say that it feels dated, but I found comfort in it because it reminded me of my youth. I'm glad I revisited this game, but not sure I'd recommend it to other people when unless they want to take a nostalgia trip.

The True Crime: It Could Be Better

Assuming the role of a police officer in an open world In the same fashion of the GTA series, True Crime: Streets of L.A. has always been a bittersweet title.

I like the notion, but it's poorly executed here. You can frisk and arrest random people, but it's very repetitious and dull at the end of the day.

I like the notion, but it's poorly executed here. You can frisk and arrest random people, but it's very repetitious and dull at the end of the day.

It's an enjoyable game though, the complex melee fighting system has a lot of potential but the gunplay is terrible and inconsistent. Driving mechanics are flawed but manageable.

As for one of the earliest GTA clones, it sets itself apart by offering the point of view from the law, but it's far from being perfect and has its frustrations.

Yknow, I never actually beat this game until today. I always got stuck on the final fight b/c I hadn't learned how to be patient. Well, that and I was playing on a real gamecube and didn't have the benefit of save states... But, now my quest is over. I finally beat that north korean bastard and with it a …

I finally beat that north korean bastard and with it a game that made a huge impression on me back in the day.
