True Crime: Streets of LA is a free-roaming driving and action game similar in concept to Grand Theft Auto III. The game's structure is mission-based; most of the missions are dictated by the story and initiate following a cutscene that advances it. Failing a mission still allows the player to continue playing through the chapter and undertake subsequent missions; in some cases this will lead to branching paths and optional missions. However, in order to complete the whole chapter the player must eventually succeed in all the main missions. Read less

The True Crime: It Could Be Better

Assuming the role of a police officer in an open world In the same fashion of the GTA series, True Crime: Streets of L.A. has always been a bittersweet title.

Assuming the role of a police officer in an open world In the same fashion of the GTA series, True Crime: Streets of L.A. has always been a bittersweet title.

I like the notion, but it's poorly executed here. You can frisk and arrest random people, but it's very repetitious and dull at the end of the day.

It's an enjoyable game though, the complex melee fighting system has a lot of potential but the gunplay is terrible and inconsistent. Driving mechanics are flawed but manageable.

As for one of the earliest GTA clones, it sets itself apart by offering the point of view from the law, but it's far from being perfect and has its frustrations.
