Good Arcade style FPS
I haven't played Devil Daggers (yet) but that is supposedly what this is based off of.
It feels like a weird mix of Troma and ID. It's got a lot of good aesthetic details all over the place and the gameplay is pretty simple and fun.

It feels like a weird mix of Troma and ID. It's got a lot of good aesthetic details all over the place and the gameplay is pretty simple and fun.
There are only three arenas. Slightly different enemies, and layout. They are all super small and basically have you running in a circle until you run out of health. You can heal yourself from touching a cardboard cutout looking drop, but they look similiar to the 'magazine' cut outs which yield you 2000 points. The health restored is 25. That's a little bit more than what happens when an enmy touches you. Power ups despawn somewhat quickly. You have maybe 2 passes around in a circle to get them. This combined with the fact its hard to clear a path to them make the game quite hard to actually get the powerups/ammo/scoring items kills alone arent really enough to get a decent score in this game.
You have three weapons. a Melee weapon (it's a sword!) a shotgun and a chaingun. the shotgun in this game is extremely satisfying and feels exactly like what you'd want in a Quake game, and the same can be said of the chaingun. The chaingun however does not last long and I find it annoying to switch back and forth between weapons (its a good way to get killed) Shotgun is great because you can pace yourself with it and collect ammo for it to avoid running out. the sword is imo kind of shit. IT works but its extremly dangerous and you cannot cut through to collect powerups with it. You can collect a kind of upgrade for the sword that doesnt really seem to do much beyong giving it a distracting glow and net you more points. (I want it to have an AOE attack)
It's main issue is scoring is very complicated and hard to pull off the big points. You have to collect three of a kind of the many items that drop, and look at the HUD to see what they are. Also a certain weapon will yield more points if you use it at any given time and will rotate. There are also a lot of other things you see pop up that distract you. For a game that really moves fast this is too much to take in, process or play towards. Being a survival shooter the game is chaotic and things go to shit quick.
If you aren't offended by this content its a decent game but dunno about the lifespan of it. I can only play 3 maps like this for so long. Still, it completely succeeds in doing what it is designed to do.
