Beat using slow motion. This was a fairly standard light gun game but impressive for the NES. The controller moved the crosshair fast enough, which was important because this game was frenetic. I used grenades liberally to destroy what I assumed were armored targets, like the ship guns. In later levels I more often used them when 2 or more enemies were next to each other. I lost almost a full hp bar during the 1st level and was dismayed to find it was not restored upon starting next level. Walkthrough said the gun enemies only do damage when they leave the screen, so I guess the most important thing was kill order. The ones that fired missiles or knives were more dangerous. Some of the human enemies were actually robots in disguise, which took way more shots to kill,. There was a memorization component to knowing which were which because it was best to kill the robots last. The robot dogs ran away without attacking when they were revealed. I ended up doing the light forest, train, sewer, and sky, skipping the dark forest and whatever else there was. Had to use a continue on 3rd stage, even with …

Had to use a continue on 3rd stage, even with save states, but managed to get past the rest of the game with 1 life in reserve. Almost ran out of ammo at the final boss, was down to 2 clips. Short, intense and probably would be more fun with a light gun.

This was probably one of the first games I ever beat as a kid and I even drew a flow diagram to map out the different paths you could take. I remember it being difficult but for some reason I really liked playing this light gun game with its limited ammo. Shooting grenades or other projectiles before they hit you while trying to take down massive vehicles was energizing. But it always sucked when you ran out of ammo at a boss because as far as I recall no extra ammo was made available so you were pretty much screwed and had to start the level over and conserve your ammo better.
