Hour of Victory allows you to play a key role in the pivotal and cinematic battles from the European and North African theaters of World War II, using the skills and gameplay style you choose. Sneak into enemy territory as a covert operative, storm the gates as a British Commando, or snipe from afar as an Army Ranger - each character's unique attributes will be needed for the fulfillment of the overall objective. Only with all these skills working closely together will you be able to say that you helped define the Hour of Victory.

Terrible Game at the Time, even Worse with Age

Picked the game up at Game Stop for $3 because I love playing old WW2 shooters from the 6th & 7th gen. Even though it looked pretty terrible, I thought "Why not?" It's only $3 & it's a WW2 game I've never played it before. And let me tell you, at that price it was definitely worth it...just for the laughs.

I only ended up playing through the first mission because that's all I could take. It's an enjoyably crappy game, don't get me wrong, but that novelty wears off after the first 10 minutes. For an early 7th gen game, I had very low expectations for its graphics, but I'll hand it to the developers. They somehow managed to land well below a bar that was barely off the ground to begin with. I can think of probably a dozen 6th gen WW2 shooters that look far better than this 7th gen game. Character models are incredibly stiff & in the off chance that they do decide to turn their head, the texture on their necks warp and stretch in a really weird way (Sorry, my knowledge of technical video game lingo is very limited).

The game-play is even worse. In my grueling 15 minutes of game-play, I never once actually learned how to crouch. I tried every button on my controller to no avail. It's probably something stupid that I missed, such as clicking down on both sticks at the same time, or something else incredibly un-intuitive. The hit detection is atrocious & I end up spraying 10-15 more bullets into an enemy than I need to because every time I kill someone they go into an incredibly slow & stiff death animation that you don't even realize has started until 3-5 seconds into it.

There are 3 different characters you can choose between for each mission (sniper, stealth or guns blazing) but it's incredibly gimmicky. The sniper & stealth guy just opens up a new path now and then such as a high path area for the sniper or unlocking a padlocked door with the stealth guy by shooting it. Yep, you read that right. Only the stealth guy has the ability to shoot padlocks off. In the end it doesn't really matter as the game is incredibly linear no matter what "path" you choose. If you go through a padlocked building you're still going down the same path, just slightly to one side of it. Linearity is fine & can get a pass, especially for these older shooters, but the game-play has to be at least solid. Give me a super cheap 5-8 hour long WW2 shooter with at least competent game-play & I'm pretty happy for the weekend.

This definitely didn't scratch that itch, but it provided 15 minutes of laughs, and for $3 that's not really a big loss. This game was pretty terrible when it came out & has only gotten worse with age.
