Slippery At Times, But Overall A Solid Platformer For An NES Licensed Game
This review is for the Nintendo Entertainment System version

Preliminary: Despite the fact the Look is quite meh considering the licensing, and the bones blending in and it feeling tedious having to collect bones, I am surprised by the quality of the controls so far. And the multiplayer elements, and upgrades, and Dream World, and there's just a lot to it while still being a straightforward action game. Hm. Plus the initial tune was real good. Hopefully the tedium wont overwhelm the positive elements, and/or the difficulty wont get too high. Especially so close to the great Super Mario World coming out!

Day 1

Wow another great tune in the 2nd house. Also, I love these stairs mechanics so much better than the Castlevanias :-p If only Castlevania would update theirs :-p

The bosses at the end of the houses are getting a bit repetitive, and the level design that was exciting is starting to get dull. But still a decent action platformer so far

Day 2

Sometimes the edges of platforms were a bit slippery, and having to go back to the beginning of an area for a Bone you missed was annoying, but it's overall better than the average rating made me expect. It reminds me of …

Day 2

Sometimes the edges of platforms were a bit slippery, and having to go back to the beginning of an area for a Bone you missed was annoying, but it's overall better than the average rating made me expect. It reminds me of the Konami Goonies games.

Welp, when I got the end of the Junk Yard and yet again didn't have all the Bones, I figured it was time to drop it. I was still annoyed about the last boss fight. And it's getting to that tedious/un-fun level of difficulty (plus none of the tunes have shined as much as the main/"overworld" tune). Still, a surprisingly solid NES platformer.

Look: 7/10 Cool that it's Nightmare on Elm Street themed, but otherwise quite lacking. Too much of the usual blending in issue of NES RPGs.

Sound: 7.5/10 A great "overworld" tune and overall pretty good NES tunes.

Play: 8/10 Surprisingly solid NES platformer, but it's kinda time to move on from this format imo. Only a couple months till Super Mario World after all... Neat feature of the different characters and the Dream World etc. But wasn't quite worth pushing through.

Feel: 7.5/10 Always love when a game is based on a franchise I like.

Attachment: 7.5/10 Something in me wants to finish this, but otherwise moving on. And with the multiplayer feature, and the robust gameplay, I could see this having been a favorite of mine as a kid if I had access.

Overall: 7.5/10

Completion: Through Junk Yard but missing 2 bones

Playtime: ~40 mins

The 1990 NES game from Rare is completely separate from the 1989 C64/DOS game, despite the same name. I will get it fixed up!
