Celebrity Deathmatch is an adaption of the once popular MTV show of the same name from the 1990s. Given the cartoonish animations of the show, a playable version, graphically similar wasn't much of a stretch.
With its choppy gameplay mechanics, cheesy one liners, and small roster of playable celebrities (all of which have lost any relevance in today's world, and really at the time of its release), it's no wonder this game failed to capture any notoriety.
Definitely not for the faint hearted.
It seemed like I had been playing too many good games recently so I haven't been able to give anything lower than 3 stars. I wanted to change that, so I loaded this little gem up, holding the very slightest of hope that I might actually be impressed by this game. Then I turned it off 10 minutes later.
"Kids these days" may not even know what this concept was to have any idea what this game is about. Celebrity Deathmatch was a claymation TV show on MTV where they were take two celebrities (and bad voice parodies) and pit them against each other in a "wrestling" match to the death. It was violent and over-the-top, but it was clay, so it was okay, right? I haven't seen it since, but I doubt it held up at all. The celebs were usually those that were relavant at the time, and you see that in this game as well. You get to play as Tommy Lee and Cleo, among others. Who has cared about them in years?

This game controls sooooo baaaaadly. I don't know how 6 people have given this game even 2 stars. Maybe they stuck it out a little long than I did and got a better hang of it, but I couldn't. I wanted to. I wanted to maybe stick with it enough to unlock something or even beat someone myself, but I can't. The game reacts slowly to your buttons and the hit detection is ridiculous. Sometimes it will look like a hit, but it will miss. Other times, the opponent is hitting you even though he obviously missed by 2 feet. It plays similarly to the other wrestling games at the time (WWF Warzone, Attitude, etc), but somehow worse. I played a LOT of Warzone and Attitude back in the day, and trying those again these days is pretty rough too, but this game is harder to play than even those.
The voice over, which was one of the shows strong points, is horrendous, if you can even count it as existing. The commentary says sometime even now and then but it's random and pointless. The characters barely said anything as well. There just wasn't much there at all.
I just realized I've spent more time typing this than I actually played, so I'm going to stop. This game isn't worth more play-time or type-time.
