agurczuk's review of The Secret Order 2: Masked Intent

After a quite bad first game this one improves a lot but is still not near the Artifex Mundi quality.

A hidden object puzzle adventure game is what this game is. Continuing the story of a time traveling order members daughter. This time you get to stop one of the members from destroying the Order.

In order to do so you'll get to visit the Orders HQ as well as travel in time to stop the bad guy from getting certain items that do something... At least that's what I remember. While this time plot is much better than the original it's still not breath taking.

The puzzles felt generally ok as well as the hidden object sections. It wasn't as crisp as it could have been but I've seen worse. The visuals are a mixed bag - some pretty decent - other rather bland and boring.

Overall a game that's playable and somewhat enjoyable if you're hidden object games enthusiast. Definitely not a shining example of the genre but not terrible either.

The game already has a terrible pun in its title so i don't need to come up with one for this review

Intro

Secret Order 2 is a Hidden Object Game. The world is presented in static screens that you move between, finding objects, solving puzzles and talking to NPCs.

The Good

  • Map travel.
  • Actionable zones indicated on map.
  • Silly story.
  • Nice environments.
  • No truly awful puzzles.
  • Pretty good HOPs.
  • Has that fun "B-movie" quality in places due to bad voice-acting and the like.

The Bad

  • It's the end of the world... again...
  • While it's occasionally funny, most of the time the bad voice-acting is just bad.
  • HOPs use muted colours making some objects really hard to find. I couldn't find that damned "horse head" even with a walkthrough because t's a vague tiny grey statue. There are a few other objects that also gave me some trouble because only a small part of them was shown.

Conclusion

Secret Order 2 is a decent HOG. Not as good as AMs own titles, but alright if you can get it for a few €/$.
