Promising Prelude

The desk of the protagonist's mysterious late grandfather

It's only thirty minutes long, but it's also fun, lovely and free. Definitely intrigued enough to look forward to the full game, which is now in development.

It's just a demo

This game is interesting and has potential, but at this point is just a demo.

A Series That Never Was

What Never Was is a free narrative puzzle game on Steam that provides about 20 minutes of gameplay. The setting takes place in the British countryside during the 2000's where you play as a granddaughter tasked with clearing out her late grandfather's attic. While rummaging through his things, it is revealed there is a larger mystery left behind. It is very easy to 100% this game, though if you miss an achievement, you'll have to begin another playthrough.

My biggest complaints are minor:

  • The subtitles are way too small.
  • A diary entry shows an illustration that's labelled as the Chinese symbol for earth but it shows the symbol for wood instead.
  • For some reason this game now launches the VR headset even though it is not a VR game and if you shut down SteamVR, the game automatically closes. I think this game would be great with official VR support though.

Enjoy the setup to the abandoned sequel What Never Was: Chapter II.
