It is the sequel to Hotel Dusk: Room 215, starring protagonist Kyle Hyde and placed one year after the events of its predecessor. The game has visual and audio styles similar to that of the first game. In Last Window, Kyle Hyde is living in the Cape West Apartments, Los Angeles, in 1980. The story of this sequel is separate from the first game, even though it includes some connections to it. Last Window was the last game developed by Cing before the company filed for bankruptcy on March 1, 2010. Read less

A much better sequel

Last window: The Secret of Cape west is very similar to its predecessor Hotel Dusk: Room 215. In some aspects - even identical. Which is not entirely a bad thing.

As its predecessor, with the beautiful art style, catchy music and well written characters, the game manages to create immersive and memorable ambient yet again. It is funny that although this game is set in an old apartment building, it is visually almost identical to the setting of the previous game that was in an old hotel.

With already established protagonist Kyle Hyde, his friends at the Red Crown and the overall vibe, the sequel mainly focused on a new story which quite an improvement over the one in Hotel dusk, at least in my opinion.

The main enjoyment of the Hotel dusk and Cape West is getting to know different characters. What The secret of Cape west does better is how beautifully concludes the story in a way that connects all the random conversations you had in the past 17 hours of gameplay. Even though game keeps you in the dark for the most part, it pushes you forward well eenough to find another interesting clue that makes sense. Although I must add that the protagonist's pushiness in some conversations felt a bit artificial. Especially considering the negative reaction he gets from the characters he speaks with. Needles to say, all of them eventually spill the beans. If mr. Hyde would ask me about the private conversation I just had with my friend, I would be enraged. Mind your own business Hyde!

While I was stuck at quite some parts in Hotel Dusk, I didn't have much trouble in the sequel. Everything was very straightforward. Although an active objective written somewhere would be very helpful. Especially when you stop playing and don't quite remember where you left off.

The game is quite slow and some conversations aren't really interesting. But if you manage to get to the end you will be rewarded with very satisfying conclusion. The game is definitely something that I will remember fondly.
