Super Roboy is a Metroidvania that I have been playtesting for a while, and I just completed its first content-complete build. It has a lot going for it, with an impressive amount of permanent abilities (87 in total!), some interesting and novel game mechanics, good player feel, and a firm grasp of the genre basic.
The skill system really sets this game apart. To learn a new permanent ability (ranging from passive offense and defense buffs to classic double-jump type abilities), you have to 1. kill a certain number of a specific enemy type(s), and 2. Obtain a specific type of crystal collectible. As I said, there’s a total of 87 abilities packed in to this 10 hour Metroidvania, which makes the gameplay super varied and addicting.
Quality of life features are great too. Each biome has a map you can find, as well as a compass and a secret compass that will reveal all items for 100%ing purposes. If you’ve seen my reviews before, you know this is SUPER appreciated by me and it made the game frustration-free and just a ton of fun.

It’s of course not perfect. The art is a little inconsistent, I didn’t really love any of the character designs or the environments. It ranges from decent to slightly amateur. The animation though is pretty good. The writing is… very meh. I couldn’t bring myself to be interested in the lore or feel any kind of attachment to the characters. But - it’s a Metroidvania, who cares.
I definitely would recommend this one to any genre fans. It’s very fun to play, even if it’s rough around the edges. If you can look past some jank and don’t need AAA or AA levels of polish, you’ll have a lot of fun. It’s similar to Goo Keeper in that way, but not nearly as janky as that one. Check it out.
