Fun Game
This review is for the Game Boy Advance version

Finished playing this last night, game is a bit short as i was able to power through the main story in like 3 1/2 hours. Honestly overall the story is of course a bit cheesy but i liked it, most characters are kinda bland but it has a certain charm to it i really enjoyed. The gameplay itself feels pretty solid to be an older GBA title, it's by no means hard and there are some gimmicks you can exploit but it controls well and felt solid. All in all i really enjoyed the game and being able to beat it in the little amount of time that it takes, it's 100% worth the play!

bretty fun but boring and easy to exploit gameplay

I enjoyed this game but found it super easy when I realized I could just lob the ball over most of my opponents head.

I also liked the idea of an RPG sports game until I found myself sitting through loads of pointless dialog just to get to the next match.

Overall fun and I don't regret playing it, but could have been executed better.

I really enjoyed this game a lot. Mario Tennis on Gameboy Color is one of my favorite games and this felt like more of it. Still has fun core Tennis gameplay and it even continues the story from that game too. It was neat seeing familiar faces even if I wish they had more of an effect with the story. The art and animation is way better in the overworld, but the actual tennis aesthetics takes some getting used to. I will say I like the music more in the older game, but that is probably nostalgia influencing my opinion. I miss the shoe and racket options, but it really isn't a big loss. They made the wall bounce minigame way easier, but in exchange, they added a ton of non-Tennis related minigames. The annoying thing is that those new minigames are directly tied to your ability to unlock Power Shots. I'm a bit torn on the Power Shots because I don't think they are too chaotic like in Mario Power Tennis on Gamecube, but I also don't understand how they work mechanically. Sometimes my opponent will get 2 charges before I get 1 and I still don't know how …

As for the fundamental Tennis, it does feel different, although it could be how I built my character. The drop shot is almost pointless, while the lob is really powerful. I played for 14-15 hours and have barely seen faults and I have NEVER seen a net, the ball always seemed to clear the net no matter what was happening. I am so glad I played this game, I really want another Mario Tennis RPG.

So far this is really fun, if a tad easy. The minigames are cute and the RPG aspects clever and fun. Plus the tennis is well done.
