Beat as the blue guy. I used the laser gun mostly and played it more as a shooter. Did not care too much about exploring. Some of the levels were a little annoying and the bosses were harder than Super Mario World, but overall the game compares very favorably to SMW. Not as good obviously but it has the same type of semi-open world where you can go back and revisit levels.
