Simonas Requiem is sort of a Metroidvania, but very paired down. Apparently Simons Quest was a big inspiration. The map is pretty loosely accurate, the levels are fairly linear, and the movement is super simple. But despite its rudimentary nature, it feels well designed and a solid experience start to finish.
The player moves slow as molasses, which I normally hate, but it didn’t bother me in this one. The platforming and combat is built around this limitation, so it never feels frustrating.
The game has about 4 upgrades (one is optional), a tiny rpg mechanic, and about 5 bosses. It took me around 3-4 hours. The animation is actually great, and the art style is nice too. Lots of translation issues, but it added to the humorous writing. The story actually had a cool ending too!
Definitely recommend if you want a miniature slower paced but engaging MV-like.
