Isometric shooter set in the fantasy/science-fiction, which is the spiritual successor of similar conceptually, Dead Nation. The player takes the role of a mercenary who fights against all the hordes of invading aliens. In addition, the Alienation offers an optional cooperative mode for four people.

Enjoyable decimation of aliens

I loved this game. The combat was simple, twin stick shooter, with random loot a la diablo. The types of loot were varied to a degree, and grew with the DLC. A minimum of two playthroughs would get you to the end game content which allowed for endless dungeon runs and weekly missions for new gear. Definitely worth playing.

Housemarque are a solid company who have made some great action titles. My love of twin-stick shooters, combined with that, made Alienation a game that I hotly anticipated. The result is a fun game that is a little unremarkable. I don't feel like writing a full review so here are the pros and cons:

Pros:

Intense action that is very Diablo. On top of that, it includes a horde feature akin to Left 4 Dead that makes sure the action never stops.

The shooting feels satisfying. Lots of explosions.

Good enemy variety that keeps you on your toes.

Events are fun.

Cons:

Guns are so similar: unlike the enemies there isn't much variety. Being able to customize their stats doesn't make that problem go away.

Progression system is lacking hardcore. At first it seems deep but then you realize that the skills don't change much or give you much incentive to care. Along with that, classes share some of the same upgrade options? I remember telling my brother that my class (the healer) gets something and he's like, "Oh I can get that too." It didn't work for me in this game.

Really, I suppose if all you want is a fast and violent shooter then this is an excellent game. The fact that they included progression systems like they did made me judge it as an action-RPG, and the systems aren't that compelling. What's here is a fun game to play through once but you're expected to replay and I don't think there's enough here to do so.
