From dust to the cosmos beyond, your civilization will rise through the ages under your guidance. Yet this is not the same static world you may be accustomed to, this is a dynamic, living world that is just as unpredictable as it is beautiful. Everything in The Universim revolves around dynamic gameplay, including the civilization AI. You may have unparalleled power, but you cannot control the AI directly as you would in a typical strategy game. The AI will make its own decisions and always seek to better the civilization in some way, but at times their decisions may end badly without your intervention. Less

Not bad and overall good but has a few hiccups that hold it back

This sounded pretty interesting, and I overall think this is a pretty good game. (Disclaimer I didn't beat this game and grew tired of it after a while and spent about 16-20 hours in it and managed to get rather far into it but only went through about half the tech tree.) I'm somewhat lukewarm on city builder sims, and I lack a lot of God Game experience despite growing up in an era where they were solid hits. This game mixes the two in a kind of way that brings back some memories of Populous (but plays nothing like it) This game has some really interesting religious overtones and even an alien interaction mechanic with your civilization that is all quite interesting (I really kind of want to continue playing to see where it all goes!) and the gameplay itself is pretty straight forward and intuitive. It's not extremely complicated or complex and there are often multiple solutions to some problems or options you can take in building your civilization (or i guess be the guiding hand of God that can magically construct buildings where you want) However the game has something of a learning curve, and its easy …

It's not extremely complicated or complex and there are often multiple solutions to some problems or options you can take in building your civilization (or i guess be the guiding hand of God that can magically construct buildings where you want) However the game has something of a learning curve, and its easy to make mistakes that can be catastrophic. It's still a fairly fun, relaxing game and its fairly well designed. I feel like a lot of these games feel similar and could even be based on the math or mechanics of the same games, however. So the God mechanic is kind of the saving grace that makes this one stand out somewhat and feel a bit less generic. (at least to me)

What's neat is how you can influence your civilization by doing things like making it rain over a lake that you are pumping water from (They can run out and the fish can die because of that or because of pollution) You can grab corpses and toss them into cemeteries (if bodies lie around it can make people sick) and help your little human civilization grow in these sorts of ways, by picking up the slack or giving them a tailwind to prosper and when you do these things it builds up Faith points in your people which you spend to do the mentioned actions. It's a nice ecosystem and balance, and it makes it fun to be able to pick and poke at your civilization this way.

There are also rival tribes that you can trade with or go to war, and you can even grab them and sacrifice their people on your altar for faith points, neat trick i learned) It seems that for the most part combat can be avoided, the rival tribes will steal your resources and cause problems though, but its not too hard to pin them under your thumb since your tribe has the Almighty God on their side. (its really fun to zap their buildings and things. this also builds up faith points in your people haha)

the game makes building kind of easy; your road construction is automatic but i was dumb and made my civilization too dense so that the traffic doesn't work right and the buildings are clusters into a central metropolitan area and people don't really want to move out into the outskirts (don't do this!) I made a similar mistake in City Skylines. I guess I failed to learn :P

the game has flaws though it can be buggy, and I've had people just stop doing their job and freeze and then die because they couldn't drink water or eat and had to reload a save further pack. the game can do other weird things and it's easy to make mistakes that will just wipe you out. Fortunately, I learned to not expand too quickly with any particular thing and got to a balance by around 250 villagers. I could never quite get to 300 villagers for some reason. I could force them to mate but that can overwhelm you if you do that too fast.

The game has a really bad UI. once you learn what everything does it doesn't matter as much but there are a lot of annoyances, and the text is hard to read (even if you upscale it in the options) in a lot of places. it's also annoying how it can be hard to click on or select particular villagers or locate things like dead bodies or sick villagers. I feel like a lot of things could be improved to make it easier to find things or interact with things and that these wouldn't be hard to implement changes. (why can't you just snap to villagers automatically in normal mode the way buildings snap when you are in building placement mode???) That's why its a three-star review and not four. My retirement from the game is less about it and more the fact that these games only hold my interest for so long. I also am unsure how to solve the trouble with my village and the thought of starting from scratch and spacing my buildings out elicits a big lazy groan from me. I might come back to it at some point.

Definitely recommend you look at it if you like city building sims. It's kind of a silly game with an irreverent and non-serious tone. The tech tree makes no logical sense really, this is not something like say Aven Colony in fact the upgrade system can bork your civ... MAKE SURE IF YOU UPGRADE a core structure from one period to the next you have the RESOURCES to build those new structures and have established enough structures to last you until you need to build more. (Ex. Medieval water pump to modern water pump) If you can't produce the new version that relies on whatever new resource is required you are screwed because you can't build the older era version of the structure anymore. To me this was a plain stupid oversight. You should be able to cycle through which era of structure you want. (preferably pressing 1,2,3,4) If you can i certainly couldn't google how to do so. You also can't populate lakes with fish or drag a fish from one lake to another (what kind of lame God can't do that, even humans can and do this!??)

Ultimately a fun game that explores the idea of being a God and leading your tribe to victory and flourish. You can be loving to them or make them fear you. You can trade your villagers lives to aliens for technological advanced resources, and other fun bits. It's imaginative and quirky and different from other city sims I've played but retains elements of both city sims and God game genre. If only it had more polish, had its bugs ironed out, and had maybe a bit more voice narration in it that was helpful throughout the whole thing, this could be something pretty awesome and approachable to an even wider audience.

Not bad but wasn't able to hold my interest

I usually love games like this. But I tried picking this one up a few times. But it just wasn't able to hold my interest. I always got bored of it after 2-3 sessions.

Tempted to pick this up. I like a good god sim, and 100% of revenue from purchases made on the dev’s store goes to Australia wildfire relief. Although there are other ways to donate, this is not a bad way to do it. Note if you buy it on steam, 30% of the sale goes to wildfire support.
