Solid platformer/puzzle game but the writing tries a bit too hard to be funny and it brings the score down for me.
This 2D platformer rules. The controls are super tight, the level design is excellent, the soundtrack kicks and the difficulty is solid. Classic platform fans will like insane mode for the requirement to play through whole levels w/o dying. I played co-op with my 7yo but we couldn’t get all the way through story mode. For those that hate the quirky snark commentary while they die hundreds of times, there is a setting to turn it off, or turn it up!
(Please note: I've only ever played multiplayer)
BattleBlock Theater is hilarious. I am also hilariously bad at it, but you have endless lives and there's no real penalty for dying. In fact, offing yourself so you respawn next to the other person is actually a mechanic with its own key to toggle it.. so this is a blast, even if you're bad at platformers.
The humor is silly and the endless styles of characters and weapons is fun. The levels are challenging with loads of different mechanics, but it's never so challenging that you feel stuck and end up redoing one small part a thousand times with no success (not my idea of fun).
If you try to play co-op with 3 or 4 people, however, you're going to have some problems. The game doesn't explain that you cannot do story mode with more than two people. In fact, the story mode screen has empty slots for a 3rd and 4th player. Instead, you can only do a battle mode with weird minigames. If you only have 3 players, one side's team is going to have a major disadvantage. This is a game you can only really enjoy with 2 …

Get it for cheap and use it as a co-op party game (either online or local co-op). It's super controller friendly on Steam, but works well with keyboards, too. Also works on macs! This is just a lot of fun, and worth playing if you have friends to play it with.
(I had to go to California for a month and a half for work, and I bought this game for me and my boyfriend to play to keep in touch. It's fast-paced and challenging, and requires you to work together, but the endless lives mean even if you are terrible at platformers, you can have fun with this. Perfect game for friendly co-op!)
A lot of fun. Oddball comedy and nicely frustrating level design.
8/10 C'est fun, c'est super sympa, de supers souvenirs avec la reus
pretty fun platforming adventure game. definitely recommend playing it with friends its much more fun that way. narrator & cutscenes alone make this a 4/5
This game felt like a slog to get through. I liked how whimsical it got, but the presentation and narration felt pretty obnoxious after awhile. Wish there was more QoL like a collectable counter during the level instead of after, a fast travel system, and faster screen transitions (loading screens are super long). Mechanically, the platforming was solid, but there was the occasional bug that forced level restarts. Some levels felt like they were made to be as inconvenient as possible, especially with how hidden the collectables were. I will say that I liked the co-op and how customizable the player character is. Probably won't be coming back to this one though.
Finally getting to replay this, first time since its release on the 360 back in 2013. Playing through with a friend. Forgot how much I loved Stamper's narration.
