A Brief, Joyful Expedition

Another banger from splendidland!
The gameplay is fun, straightforward and relaxing.
The character designs, sprite work and clay figurines (😱!!) are beautiful, irreverent and charming.
The animals you catalog (and their accompanying animations, behavior and flavor text) are varying mixes of funny, surprising and interesting.

And the simple story has a lot of heart. As a creative person who sometimes struggles to manage the need for external validation, I was moved by the ending.
If you enjoyed the developer's previous work, FRANKEN, or the general light-hearted surrealism of games indebted to EarthBound, give Formless Star a whirl. It only takes an hour or two to 100%, and it’s available for whatever price you want from Itch.io. Works on Steam Deck, too: There's a Linux binary but the Windows version played more nicely with the Steam UI in my experience.
