A game that has a soul.
This review is for the Xbox Series X|S version

Although the project is only for 5 hours, and it is peculiar, but it clings to a pleasant picture, a simple story and a wonderful atmosphere. It's hard to recommend it to many, but if you can give it a chance, then give it to me, maybe something will come out. Especially if you have a game pass or a discount.

Great visuals, style, and uniqueness. It was also fun to play, although a bit on the short side and could have used more story elements. Overall, I would recommend on sale.

Style Over Substance, But What a Style!

Keeper, like most Double Fine games before it not called Psychonauts 2, succeeds spectacularly on art direction and fails miserably at gameplay.

Keeper is a very clunky game. Movement is clunky (at least until it becomes basically monkey ball towards the end, which actually feels decent). It also has no camera control, as the right stick moves your lighthouse beam around, so we're back to fixed camera angles like a late 90s resident evil game, and unfortunately it does not work nearly as well as you would hope.

The puzzles barely qualify as such. This is not a puzzle game, this is a walking sim with a facade of puzzle laid on top.

The story is, well, about what you would expect from "one of these." Dialogue-free abstract imagery in the same vein as Journey, or Abzu, or Jusant.

Despite all those negatives, I think it's worth experiencing for the art, because it's one of the most striking games I've ever seen. Especially on an OLED monitor with HDR enabled. It's a treat for the eyes and utterly unique, I really can't think of anything else that looks quite like this game does. Really wish Double Fine would find some …

Games like these are why I'm so pleased Game Pass exists. I likely never would have purchased it outright, or even heard much about it otherwise.

It's also the kind of game that I think some people will drop off early which is a shame since it gets better with each passing hour and section.

Straight out of the gate, the visuals and audio are delightful. Double Fine is always brimming with creativity and Keeper is no exception. Everything looks weird and colorful, gross and beautiful. Your main "character" staggers around like a drunk monster yet at the same time the scenery can be so tranquil and otherworldly that it fits in. The imagination on display is truly impressive.

Loved being a boat, then a Metroid Prime-esque rolly thing (best part of the game IMO) and then the final section was equally thrilling.

I sometimes had a hard time discerning where to go, but if I can figure out all the puzzles pretty easily without a guide, anybody can. Cool game.

A Watchful Eye in the Night
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

🎨 Visually, it’s an animated masterpiece.

🖌️ The environments are stunning, with visible brushstrokes and a raw, hand-crafted look - as if sculpted from clay.

💡 Everything is elevated by gorgeous lighting, tangible textures, and vibrant colors.

🎮 The gameplay feels great with a controller,

📜 and it truly shines through its beautiful silent storytelling.

⏱️ The pacing is perfectly balanced, keeping players amazed until the end, with some fantastic surprises in its spectacular final act!

🛠️ PC version isn’t very well optimized — there are a few slowdowns during loading, and the game is quite demanding.

💰 The launch price might be a bit on the high side.

🧿 If you enjoyed Journey or Abzû and you’re looking for a game that’s instantly engaging, not too long but carefully crafted, full of surprises, and with a breathtaking artistic direction - Keeper will offer you an unforgettable journey!

Wrapped this one up last night. Was maybe 4 or 5 hours in total.

What beautiful art and lighting all the way through. It's very beautiful and fascinating to look at, with great character animation. It reminded me strongly of some of the stuff at Meow Wolf's Convergence Station in Denver, or from the Disney movie Strange Worlds, with a tiny splash of Blue Sky's Robots.

I also liked how the game reinvented itself several times as you play through it. It keeps the core elements of Limbo/Inside/Herdling/FAR style puzzles throughout, but switches up the interaction modes as the game evolves and accelerates toward the end.

I played it on Game Pass, and when I went to Steam to grab the link to drop in my friends' Discord channel as a recommend, I was kinda surprised that the retail price on this is $30. It's beautiful and fun and a great experience, but I think if you're interested you should just get Game Pass for a month, beat it, and have the rest of the library to sample for the other 28 or 29 days you'll have access for. It's sort of the quintessential Game Pass catalog game, in that …

IDK, I "played" this for like 10 minutes and just was not feeling it. From what I have seen in reviews and reddit posts, it apparently gets better after the first 1 to 2 hours, but I juts don't think this kind of walking simulator game is for me. I like walking simulators every now and then but idk, it also just like was not running well and I felt like the audio and the visuals were just off, but I don't think it was a PC issue of mine so IDK if the gamepass version is just messed up or something. Maybe in the future if I want a walking sim to play I'll play this one
