At first its overwhelming but as you complete rows you get abilities that help you sort and collect books quicker. You can use them and speedrun the game or you can sort everything yourself, it's up to you.

The only annoyance was the map which you dont have with you. You have to constantly run to the map displayed on the wall because there's too many categories to remember. I had to take a picture. Once you start filling up shelves then it's easy to know where each category is located based on the look of the books and the fact that you ran to that shelf a million times but that first 1h30min was tedious.

Overall, good game tho.
