Being a 'kinetic' VN, Highway Blossoms focuses on a single, non-branching storyline and has no gameplay elements. Which means the only way of interacting with the game is to click and watch the text proceed on the screen. This lack of interactivity, of player agency, quickly killed my interest in this game. I'll be staying away from this sub-genre from here on out.

Regarding the story, I felt that the writing was pretty average as a whole. There were a few emotional moments that stood out to me, but the rest of it ranged from somewhat interesting to completely inane. I wasn't particularly fond of the characters either, which is pretty disappointing considering the 6 or so hours I spent with the game. I did make it to the end, just so as to not leave the story unfinished.

With the last bit of money I had to spend on myself before my birthday come the 26th, and before the summer sale ended, I snagged a visual novel titled Highway Blossoms.

It is a genre I've played far too much of, being a voracious reading anime loving dweeb, and honestly, this one in particular is just adorable. Whereas something Katawa Shoujo I appreciated for the absolute batshit insanity that it was while still being somehow beautiful at the same time, this is just an adorable story about lesbians.

Being a lesbian myself, I wholly appreciate having this sort of content. Let's me imagine that, at least every now and then, we don't solely exist as a porn category for straight guys.

Anyway, it's a cute game, and it's a well made game too honestly. It's got full voice acting, great art, wonderful music and an interesting plot. It's a solid piece of work, and I totally look forward to whatever else the people behind it wind up making somewhere later down the road.
