Preliminary: Oooo this is very interesting. I always love action platformers, there are multiple characters, good 80s graphics, good music, cool that it has espers to choose from and that you "phone in" to change between them lol. I hope it isn't too complicated and winds up being fun!
Look: 8/10
Off to a good start, I love the inclusion of stat screens at starts of racing and action games :-p
Some super cute enemies like the bookcase ones.
Sound: 8/10 Cute that the different characters seemed to have a designated jingle accompanying them.
Play: 6/10 The collision masks are not nearly as tight as I'd hope/expect from an 87 arcade game. As cool as it was to have so many enemies, I mostly relied on Akiko for the whole game. I had read that getting the broom from the witch is best for the boss, but the one time I got her, there was a long route from the boss-theme-music to the boss itself >.< (Nice that you can snag her broom multiple times in a level though, which I finally realized the last few levels.) It's nice that you can smack away some enemy projectiles, though again the …

Feel: 7/10 Lol this description of an enemy (reminded me of Pajama Sam, as well): "Walks on the floor and flies cushions horizontally." A lot of potential in this, but a bit too bogged down in the "we gave you a time limit, so here are invisible walls and other tedious things to make this feel like a maze game, which we know Insta has never been into" lol but no seriously, for players like me, it's important to just embrace the straightforward platformer elements of this game. If anything I'd just work on being better about Score. As for getting to know all the elements of this game (mind you, I even had a well-done StrategyWiki to consult), that was not for me heh. I could not wrap my head around it.
Attachment: 7/10 The same boss at the end each time was getting old, especially since I only really succeeded against him when I'd do the same trick of spamming attack as fast as I could to stay afloat (which is a feature I've liked in other games and in this one, a way to manipulate jumps indeed). Not a fan of the infinitely spawning enemies, though, felt more like a C64 mechanic than an arcade game mechanic. Quickly my playing of the game just devolved into simply finishing the levels, not trying to understand the All Gold Bonus or whatever or getting all the Espers etc. Luckily I knew there were only 8 stages so it seemed doable even if I was ending up disappointed (mostly just due to the potential it has)
By the time I got the ultimate Esper, I was so locked in to Akiko for both levels and the boss, tho I read that final Esper is best for the boss. I'm on Stage 7. Just 2 more to go and to see if I can, uh, try anything more in the game? Glad I succumbed and just focused on beating it and having fun, because I think I maybe would have given up on the game if I had kept trying to fully understand its mechanics, namely the Score and Gold and Bonus stuff. Oh and the power-ups lol. I have looked everywhere and don't know how you "use" the power-ups in the upper right?
Stage 7 forced me to use the boy, so at least I heard another of the character songs :-p (it was a banger too). Stage 8 proved really annoying I just wanted to finish but there was such a high jump that I basically needed the broom. That final boss was very lame, I must have hit it 300 times before it died. I realize I could have used that other Esper, but a) I needed the broom to get over that jump I mentioned and b) I didn't expect the boss then. But I got through it, just was lame to add no new mechanics except 6 times as much health as the last version of the boss. Overall, could have been a lot better than it was, but it was fun enough, and I love the genre, and there was plenty I probly missed or didn't learn about the game. Oh lol I see they shame you at the end (tho actually that is a nice touch for replayability if I ever choose to return to it)
