Maybe a bad Dying Light game but its a good FPP zombie game with lots of parkour, climbing, dropkicks & head smashing.

I don’t play a lot of open world games. They are exhausting: maps littered with icons for activities I have no interest in. There’s too much of everything, and it makes me feel overwhelmed and anxious. That didn’t happen with Dying Light 2. It manages to have gameplay that is incredibly thrilling, yet a story so forgettably competent, that I could experience it à la carte without any guilt. Techland built a big beautiful world with an endless number of side missions and distractions. But fuck that, because I just want to do parkour and kick zombies.
The first-person traversal feels phenomenal. It is fluid and intuitive, and only gets better as you unlock more abilities. Scrambling my way across rooftops, looking for the fastest path, never lost its appeal. I didn’t even bother unlocking fast travel points. Just let me run, climb, jump and eventually paraglide and grapple hook my way through the world.
Occasionally I would stop to smash a zombie’s head in, or leapfrog human opponents to flying kick their buddies. Because, guess what? The first-person combat also kicks serious ass. It feels meaty and direct, with lots of severed limbs flying around.

An open world game with killer traversal and combat. At that point does the story even matter?
Not really, but that’s not to say the story is completely worthless. There are a couple of characters that I found endearing. One is inexplicably played by Rosario Dawson. She is the only “big” name in the cast who lends her likeness, so it is very bizarre when she shows up part way through the game. Her character, Lawan, is genuinely likeable, and I also enjoyed Hakan, the loveable dick. The story is simple - you want to find your missing sister, while also getting revenge on the sinister Waltz who experimented on you as a child.
The only other noteworthy aspect is that you are at risk of turning into a zombie. This comes in the form of a timer when UV light is absent. It adds a sense of urgency to sequences at night or in dark interiors, but is quickly forgotten once you upgrade your timer. There are also chase sequences that can occur at night if seen by certain howler zombies, at which point you must parkour you way to a safe house. This is fun, but can be easily avoided by travelling by rooftop.
That’s about it. I didn’t play the first game, and played this on easy to maximise zombie kicking, so your expectations might be different then mine. But, hey, maybe give it a chance. It’s a fun game.
The addictive elements were still there. The parkour was super fun, but the game was too massive with way too many (similar) tasks to do, which ended up feeling repetitive. In the end, I got tired of Dying Light 2 that I didn't even bother visiting a returning character I liked from Dying Light 1 because the game had kept me too busy with too many side quests that stopped feeling meaningful because the tasks felt repetitive.
However, the side quests weren't bad. They had stories, and many were good stories. After I finished the main story, however, I stopped caring to come back. I didn't have this issue with DL1. I finished everything that was available to do in the first game and enjoyed every second of it.
The characters in Dying Light 2 were frustrating if not annoying, the lots of them. I couldn't care about these characters that the narrative pushed me to care about. There were only 2 characters I cared about: Hakon and Aitor. And caring about these two were entirely optional.
With the exception of Hakon, DL 1 characters won, hands down.
Overall: 4 stars. Super fun experience, with flaws.
Asc Valhalla had the same problem.
Too much - same thing going on with the side missions and the other stuff.
Open-world curse that's what I called.
It sometimes works wonders. When the game has a great story, good AI, cool characters etc.
DL2 has not.
Great visuals tho.
Good parkour game. But story and characters and zombies it's just dont feel like dying light anymore. First game for me was a lot better. In this part getting op weapon is nothing hard you can get it just like that after unlocking second part of the map. Overall it was just mid i dont think it worth buying just for a bit better parkour.
Va bien te faire enculer syler 80 pétard dans le vent
To start off with, I really enjoyed this game. If you’ve played the first and enjoyed it or you’re looking for a fun parkour/gruesome action style game you’ll love this.
I’ve heard mixed things about the story but I enjoyed it throughout until the end which I found a little lack lustre but the main focus of this game is on the gameplay and it is amazing.
Whilst I’m not dying for an expansion and I probably won’t touch it again after completion of the main story, the ride was fun and definitely worth a buy if on sale.
Enjoyed this one way more than the first one! At least Waltz was a better villain than the forgettable Rais from part 1! Lawan is so likeable and so is Aiden. Hakon may be a dickhead but imo a loveable one! Some sections are exhausting. I have tis phobia of roaming at night bcus of those volatiles who became my worst nightmare! All in all, Stay Human was highly entertaining!!
I really love the missable quests, the best part of the game, cant wait to replay like half the campaign or more to be able to play like up most 2 hours of content that i missed because i wanted to play the main story part and than play the sides if i enjoyed the campaign enough to continue.
I cannot express how much I love this game. I played the heck out of it on release and it felt so fluid moving around the world, SUPER creepy, especially sneaking around at night, and I simply couldn't get enough.
Well lately there have been zero new games that have tickled my fancy, so I've decided to stay firmly locked in the past and enjoy games I've already played before. I burned through a couple Zelda games but the other night I had a dream about Dying Light 2.
So, I've decided on a second playthrough. It plays excellent on the Portal so playing it in bed at night with headphones on has been a real treat. I've recommended this game before and I'll say it again - this game rocks.
Checking out Dying Light 2 again to see if the updates have improved the game since launch. Combat has definitely been taken up a notch with gore and dismemberment increased, finishers added, and you can finally pick up enemies dropped weapons...

Traversal also feels pretty refined too. They've added a 'physical' mode in the options that turns off the floaty parkour feeling that many people disliked. I'm just still waiting for crossplay to be added. They're slowly listening and implementing feedback from the community which is nice!

I've been having such a fun time in this game. The last game in this same category to give me so much joy was the original State of Decay, but this is so much better. I simply love the traversal and floating around this massive city, beating up zombies, and raiding dangerous dark zones in the middle of the day when they're at their most dangerous!
I didn't get nearly into the co-op as much as I thought I would - you really have to join a Discord and find some good people to play with, because people still accidentally "call for help", then boot you out of the game as soon as you join. And to this day, despite joining probably a dozen other games, no one ever has the damn microphone turned on, making it an exercise in frustration.
That being said, the one game I planned out with someone I met online was a real blast. Very fun just running around and enjoying the playground.
I'd say the weakest part of the original Dying Light was the story, so seeing this huge narrative focus in the sequel is reassuring. Can't wait for that sweet, sweet multiplayer.
