Learn the pattern, the videogame *

This review is for the Kowai Shashin - PlayStation - Japan (2002) release

Played the japanese version with an english fantranslation.

You play as a young exorcist who expels ghosts in some photos send by people. The gameplay is reeeeeally basic. You move the cursor around trying to find the ghost in each picture and then exorcise them by pressing button in a pattern. You play the first stage and you played them all, cause nothing changes in the whole 2 to 3 hours of gameplay. It's really bland in that sense.

By the 3/4 mark you reach a point in which, imo, the game shifts to a more luck base game rather than a quick reflex one. The enemies spawn waaaay to fast and a lot of time I can't catch them even tho I have really good reflexes. What was an easy section was turning into a really hard one cause as soon as the enemy spawn it goes away.

The only way I can recommend this game it's if you really like to press buttons, the same buttons for 2 hours straight. Otherwise just skip this one, you are not gonna miss it.

It's harder than it looks. *

The game is alright, mostly about finding where the ghosts are in the picture; it can seem not intuitive at first, but when you know what to do then the mechanics become second nature.

Over all, the game challenges memorization and reaction time (and the difficulty increases the more you play), but it does drag sometimes; the later stages are the most challenging ones of the game, so at least you'd not feel that the game feels anticlimactic at the end.

Don't worry if you don't know any Japanese, the story is more often than not people asking you to exorcise ghosts in pictures, accompanied with a "cursed object" subplot.

I can recommend this game if you'd like a bit of a challenge, it's nice.

(And no, this game isn't cursed at all).
