Despelote

Uno de mis mejores amigos es de Quito, Ecuador y muy futbolero además. Me acuerdo que el me contó una vez que la primera califiación para el mundial fue un momento bien especial en la historia de su país. Obviamente no solo él, pero toda la nación tiene este verano en su memoria y se acuerda de ello con mucha nostalgia, y incluso más esa generación que estaba en su infancia en aquel momento. Este videojuego capta la atmósfera de este recuerdo a través de un estilo audiovisual único y original que evoca el ambiente sereno de una infancia sin preocupaciones. Me gusta que al centro del juego está también un mecanismo básico de gameplay, que es jugar futbol, así que no es solo una novela visual, pero ofrece igualmente el encanto lúdico que no puede hacer falta en un juego sobre la infancia. Yo también jugaba al futból en los campos de los pueblos de mis tierras con mis amigos. Tengo recuerdos parecidos y aunque crecía yo en Alemania y no en Quito, puedo relacionarme muy bien a esta experiencia.

Despelote es un buen ejemplo porque amo indie games. Ahora estoy pensando como le puedo regalar o presentar a mi amigo este juego.

Games that give you into a window of life you know nothing about are when the medium is at its peak. Here you can get a snippet of life in Ecuador as many different milestones are reached that bring lots of national joy through the eyes of Julian, the main character, and the surrounding neighborhood (mostly the town park).

Ecuador gets its first gold medal in the olympics when they win in speedwalking (so it becomes a national trend). The ecudadorian soccer team is overperforming and has a chance of making it to the world cup for the first time so it consumes the nation's attention. Movies are being produced inside the nation that are getting national attention.

The game just feels ripping with pride for the country and its achievements and you can feel the pulse of the life of country in every moment of this game.

Growing up in America, I always felt something whenever id visit family in colombia and see how much communal life was in the communities my extended family grew up in. The kids are scrappier, the vibes more punk, the community more connected. This game helped me to connect with something I always wanted to, and it reminded me what games can do when the passion is there.

Such a 5/5 experience for me, you should def give it a try.

(The soccer is fine as a component but not the main draw imo)
