Narc is a 1-2 player game, where your mission is to infiltrate the Mr. Big Corporation, the scourge of the underworld. To do this, you must get through the game's eight stages, with over ten sectors like the junkyard, subway, drug lab, nursery, downtown, Sunset Strip, and even the corporation, where Mr. Big resides. In order to get through the stages, you are required to collect a number of safe cards, and insert them in the slot next to the stage exit. Each sector includes a map, and should be easy to read. deimosremus's review of Narc

Narc has some really cool cinematic graphics/cutscene/boss art, but the actual game looks as though it was put together as quick as possible. Super schizophrenic and sloppy.

Beat. On my 1st attempt I did not make it past stage 1 before game over, so I restarted. It played more like a beat em up with guns, moving up and down along the planes to avoid enemies. They infinitely respawned so I found the best tactic was to keep moving forward while avoiding as many enemies as possible so as not to get overwhelmed. Some enemies could be arrested by getting into melee range and were easy to get by approaching from the top or bottom. Arresting gave bonus points that resulted in more lives than simply shooting, despite being less exciting. The basic goons, guys that threw needles either straight or diagonal, and the guards with automatics at the end were the only enemies that could be arrested. The rest had to be avoided or killed. Worst enemy was the dog, which required crouching in order to shoot. When they came in on a different plane they zig zagged into melee range from the top or bottom, just like I did for arrests, so it was impossible to not take a hit. The clowns and garbage men were melee only and took multiple bullets to kill, so …

The clowns and garbage men were melee only and took multiple bullets to kill, so sometimes they needed a rocket. It was odd how they presented each new human enemy type like they would be a boss, but they were all just generic repeated enemies. The only boss was at the end, which I had to look up how to beat after running around blasting it with like 50 rockets and losing 5 or 6 lives. I had managed to get through the rest of the game only losing 1 life, and ran out of bullets at 1 point. Needed a death to restore bullets. I had to look up how to defeat the boss. So you're telling me I have to do the stupid double press to jump and try to shoot the top of the boss. Even worse when combined with the double press to shoot rockets. It was a giant cybernetic head on a hover platform that later turned into a metal skull. Made no sense, but the ending revealed the entire game was a training simulation. It was a bad boss that was not fun. Too difficult to tell how to deal damage and too difficult to avoid taking damage. The hitboxes on his projectiles seemed skewed against the player and it was very difficult to get out of melee range. It really should have been better designed with something to guide the player towards what to do, and either not closed into melee or had a safe window to get around. This game had one of the best vehicle sequences I have ever played, because it did not auto scroll and there was full freedom to go fast, slow, stop and even get out. I did not figure out how to get into the car and left it behind until I seen just how long the stage was with plenty of open stretches with nothing. So I went back to the car and got it working by jumping into it. I drove as slow as possible, barely faster than walking, so I had plenty of time to react to obstacles, land mines and enemies. I even came to complete stops to navigate past stuff at slower than walking speed. Just like how I would drive a real car in real life with hazards on the road. I really appreciated this over the usual pedal to the floor high risk action.

This game was ok. I would have preferred non infinite enemies, other bosses, more action and better controls.
