Expectation: Negative. It kinda looks like a mobile game.
Intro
This is an isometric co-op shoot-em-up. You walk through an area and shoot pink aliens. There are also different classes with different power ups.
Review
When i started the game my initial negative reaction turned neutral. It looked kinda nice. There are different classes with different perks. And it has a dedicated solo mode. Less than 50 minutes later i got so bored i just quit.
From Space has three major flaws. First of all, it is a visual mess. Most of the areas are fairly dark. There are a lot of bright effects. All enemies are bright pink. There are lots of infected ground areas that are bright pink. There are big, bright pink crystals. Combined with the fact that enemies sometimes spawn from the ground, it can be hard to keep track of your cursor and the enemies.
Secondly, to actually unlock perks you have to grind for hours for each class. And this information isn't presented clearly enough. But you do get perk slots right away, which is kinda confusing. It's also just no very fun. A more sensical approach would be …

Secondly, to actually unlock perks you have to grind for hours for each class. And this information isn't presented clearly enough. But you do get perk slots right away, which is kinda confusing. It's also just no very fun. A more sensical approach would be to give weaker version of perks initially, also so you can get a feel for how they work.
The third flaw is the core gameplay. The first real mission takes place on a map that is quite big considering how slow you are. It is divided in long corridors, fencing off some areas with no clear way to get there. Then it gives you far too little indication of where to go. At the 48 minute mark i realised i had walked back to the map marker... which was on the other side of a fence.
There are also other flaws like NPCs casually standing in acid puddles, NPCs giving no audio clue that they're downed and the clunky controls. Tab is inventory and Space is communication wheel? Enemies spawning on top of you from nowhere is extremely obnoxious. Also not a fan of the enemy design. I wanna shoot creepy aliens, no pink Super Meat Boys.
Conclusion
Instead of being a fun, casual shooter From Space is a messy slog. It fails to give proper guidance while expecting players to play for 2 hours to unlock even a single skill. It honestly made me sleepy.
3/10
From Space doesn't bring a lot of new ideas to the table but succeeds where it needs to, delivering an entertaining twin-stick shooter. It won't change the world, but it'll give you a few fun evenings. It is made even better with friends, but some annoying design choices make it a little tough to recommend.
