I found out about Poinpy because a friend told me he had seen it in some end of the year list. The new game from the dude who made Downwell!!! Really? Cool! It’s on Netflx? Wow. So, for the first time, I went and looked in Netflix’s video games section and I ended up downloading five or six games. Now, to be honest, I admire Downwell but it never really clicked for me. I did adore Poinpy though. Maybe it’s because I love the slingshot mechanic; maybe it’s because it’s so elegant in terms of design, structure, balance; maybe it’s because it works so well for a quickie in the toilet but also for a “serious” session trying to reach the end; maybe it’s because of the many, lovely power-ups; maybe it’s because the puzzle mode is great; maybe it’s because the combo-based progression is basically perfect; maybe it’s because the final level is such a flurry of colors; whatever it is, I did adore it. Plus, that stop motion ending, so sweet and out there and completely unexpected… amazing.

This developer has a talent for making hard but fair games. I loved Downwell and I loved this one as well. Lots of fun. Lots of challenge. I still have it on my phone and am still playing it, but it was time to write a shirt review.

A rogue like where you slowly gather more things to help you through the game. Never felt unfair. One of those game you can get completely lost in especially with the "one more run" thing going on in the back of your head.

This has been a nice break so far with simple and fun mechanics, but god damn, I'm having trouble actually beating that final level

Completed the game today! If I knew I was gonna do it I would have held off on my review. Deciding if I want to rewrite it or not.....either way, This is a very good game and possibly my favorite game I've played on mobile. Well worth your time to play. I wish more people have played it.

I really like this game. The developer, Moppin (which I'm pretty sure is one dude), is great. I really enjoyed Downwell and I really enjoy this one so far. They are both incredibly hard, but they don't feel unfair. I think this one is easier as you level up and get more skills upgrades to be able to continue on, but I'm just starting and we'll see how it goes 😁
