Sonic And The Fallen Star

Sonic and the Fallen Star must have been a huge labour of love. It looks, plays and sounds amazing and there's a fair few zones here making this as long as a regular Sonic game. It has the usual problems that pretty much all Sonic fan games i've played have. The bosses look out of place, the special stages are a bit janky and unforgiving, the transitions between high speed sections and platforming are unbalanced, although better than in less sophisticated fan games.

Overall though, it's a triumph and i'd have been happy if i'd paid money for it.

Wow! This fan game far exceeded my expectations. The sprite work in particular is just lovely, an alternate application of the classic design that isn't completely indebted to the Genesis originals. The soundtrack is bopping, the level gimmicks are unique and creative, and the bosses are really fun.

If I had to nitpick, the cut scenes drag on a little too long, and the large gaps and QTEs in the special stages get a bit annoying. But seriously, this is one of my favorite 2-D Sonic games now.
