Space Invaders is an arcade video game developed by Tomohiro Nishikado and released in 1978. It is one of the earliest shooting games and the aim is to defeat waves of aliens with a laser cannon to earn as many points as possible.

This is exactly what I was afraid of. There are now 26 separate entries for Space Invaders. I don't know how many are functionally different enough to justify a separate entry, but I'd bet money it's not 26. It's probably less than 5.

It's a classic for a reason. I play it all the time on my Switch. Despite it being one of the oldest video games of all time, it's still a blast to play.

I can appreciate a shmup with cover. Fighting the various waves of aliens and trying to get that pesky UFO for extra points is a pretty good time.

"Invaders! Possibly from space!"

Some of the most iconic 8-bit artwork in the history of video games and a simple yet absurdly challenging premise (don't shoot where they are, shoot where they're going to be!) makes this one of the most influential and impressive games from the first generation. It's certainly my favorite game from the 70s.
