Play as Ada Wong in this additional scenario and experience the events of Resident Evil 4 from her perspective, filling in unanswered questions posed in the main story. In addition to the action available in the base game with Leon, a grappling gun can be used to get to various locations, as well as take down enemies from a distance and launch a ranged melee attack. This allows for a more exciting and fast-paced gameplay experience. Read less

Somewhat enjoyed this but it overstayed its welcome, and it didn't reveal enough lore or about Ada. Somewhat enjoyed this but it overstayed its welcome, and it didn't reveal enough lore or about Ada. I realize she is supposed to be a mysterious operative and that makes for a great foil to the main character, but not so great when she is the center of the game. She didn't seem to have any real love for helping out Leon or the President's daughter and had no real motivation for why she betrays Wesker. She also displayed this nonchalant attitude with regard to all the threats on the island. This makes sense because she was well prepared for her mission while Leon was going in mostly blind. But again, it undercuts the atmosphere of Resident Evil a lot and doesn't make for an interesting game.

I finished RE4 and decided I wanted to jump into the DLC when the base game was fresh in my mind. However, I am finding myself less excited to finish it. There is more time spent with Ada and Luis, which is good, but nothing new in the gameplay category and the combat and puzzles seem even easier than most of the later stuff in RE4. I guess that might be why the default difficulty is set at hard (I chose Normal).

I also am not finding that much more lore in the game. It is mainly filling in the gaps of what Ada was up to this whole time, which is less than compelling.

Giving Us More of a Good Thing

Effectively just 5 more hours of Resident Evil 4 Remake. Wish the gameplay was more distinct from Leon's journey, but I'm not going to complain about getting more of one of the best games I've ever played.

Reached the halfway point last night and I am just not vibing with this. Replaying so many stages from the base game (albeit in a different order) wouldn't be so bad if Separate Ways provided more of a unique gameplay hook, but Ada is effectively Leon in every combat situation. Reached the halfway point last night and I am just not vibing with this. Replaying so many stages from the base game (albeit in a different order) wouldn't be so bad if Separate Ways provided more of a unique gameplay hook, but Ada is effectively Leon in every combat situation. I did enjoy using the grappling gun to traverse the castle in the first chapter and wish the game focused more on traversal and ranged attacks to give it a different feel. We'll see if the story kicking into high gear in the latter half gets me more invested.

Am I being too harsh? Probably shouldn't have dove straight into this after beating the base game...
