The announcer in this game should be a hype man for literally everything. I played this game a lot as a kid, both on the PlayStation and in the arcade. I was always so afraid of running out of time. It was quite surprising to be able to turn this on and beat everything it had to offer within a few hours. Guess my fear was unwarranted. A lot of fun to figure out how each boat handles the water physics and trying to find all the shortcuts. It definitely makes you feel faster than any other racing game I have played, but there is not much more to the game. Glad to know my boat has a cupholder thanks to the loading screen though.

One of the best arcade racers there is, as far as I'm concerned. Sit down, pick a boat, start racing. Get boosts, use boosts, win the race! Racing in this game is fast and frantic -- boats crashing into each other, flying off ramps, bouncing off the waves at breakneck speeds. The courses are great, filled with all sorts of fun set pieces, secret paths, huge jumps, and crazy police boats that chase after you (until you boost through them, flipping them into oblivion like a Looney Tunes). Game still looks good today, and works perfectly for pick-up-and-play. I think my only complaint is that the game is stingy with the number of levels out the gate, forcing you to do very well at them to unlock more levels. To unlock the first batch isn't too crazy, but the next two batches? Ugh. You gotta shave EVERY half-second you can, and never mess up a single turn, and hope the other boats don't bump you even once. I get that's just how things were back then, but still.

I Still Think About The Announcer Shouting "CHUMDINGER!!!"

Who needs to travel the world, seeing its awe-inspiring natural beauty and magnificent monuments when you can simply RACE JET PROPELLED BOATS around them from the comfort of your living room? I always really loved the humor and originality of this thing - clearly so did action set piece designers of the Mission: Impossible and Fast and Furious franchises.
