Beat the game on loan from my coworker using her DS. This could be considered my 1st Castlevania game but I am pretty sure I played at least 1 game in the series back in the 90s. I found the base gameplay to be fairly enjoyable and liked trying out the different glyphs. I did not like how some are random drops which would require farming to fill out your repertoire. I did not farm glyphs but I know I did get a few of them and never really had trouble finding something to use. I don't remember what glyphs I favored. Maybe the axe.
I did struggle on some of the bosses and had to check a walkthrough. This game was a bit too hard for my tastes, largely because you cannot take enough hits to reasonably learn patterns on the 1st try. I get annoyed by that level of difficulty because it is entirely unrealistic, though it is not so bad in a game where death is not game over. The game annoyed me after I beat Albus because it did not tell me how to use the Dominus. I ended up doing it wrong and killing myself. God damnit had to fight Albus again.
My notes say I gave it 6/10 those years ago but it is clearly better than other 6s I have played. The game is actually quite user friendly and I always appreciate new game+. I give it 7.
