The player controls Pengo, a red penguin that resides in the Antarctic. The game takes place in an overhead maze made of ice blocks, where Pengo fights the trolling, blob-like Sno-Bees. The objective of the game is for Pengo to survive a series of rounds by eliminating all Sno-Bees, while amassing bonuses by bringing together the three diamonds dispersed in the maze.

Noot noot! No wait, that's Pingu. This game stars Pengo, the penguin that pushes blocks to squish enemy Sno-Bees, whatever those are. A very simple, but pretty addictive little arcade game. The map is littered with ice blocks, which the Sno-Bees can destroy as they zip about -- and just like with the ghosts in Pac-man, one touch and you're dead. You've probably all played some clone of this game on your smartphone at some point, or a bad Flash game (back when bad Flash games were a thing). I've been playing the Game Gear version of Pengo, and all in all I'd say the game is a good fit for quick pick-up-and-play sessions on a handheld that needs to keep the graphics pretty simple.

In Japan, the Mega Drive would eventually get a Bomberman-esque sequel called Pepenga Pengo, which is surprisingly really great stuff. I recommend everyone give it a shot, if you're into that sort of frantic block-sliding puzzle/action.
