Sequel to the acclaimed Portal (2007), Portal 2 pits the protagonist of the original game, Chell, and her new robot friend, Wheatley, against more puzzles conceived by GLaDOS, an A.I. with the sole purpose of testing the Portal Gun's mechanics and taking revenge on Chell for the events of Portal. As a result of several interactions and revelations, Chell once again pushes to escape Aperture Science Labs.

So I signed up for GeForce Now the other day. Thought I might check it out. Well it turns out that GeForce Now really doesn't have many games, and of their limited section of games I only own one: Portal 2. I tested it, it plays quite well. The app regularly tells me I have a spotty connection. Note that I am getting that warning on a network that is twelve times Nvidia's recommended speed for 1080p 60fps. However, despite the warning the image is exceptionally smooth.

In full honesty I own several more games that are supported in GeForce Now, however I own them via the Epic Store. Currently those games are only supported if purchased on Steam, and the grand total number of Epic store games supported appears to be about five.

It appears that my biggest problem is that I don't own a lot of big AAA games on Steam, so it seems that I am the wrong customer for GeForce Now. I do have 90 days free, so I'll watch to see if additional games are made available but I don't think this will be the streaming service for me.

Microsoft's Project xCloud streaming starts beta testing in Canada soon. I've signed up for that, so we'll see if that offers better options for my needs.

When Valve was trying to make the sequel to Portal, they came up with something they called "F-Stop". I think this sequel was to take place in the 60s, but it had this special mechanic that Valve said they wanted to keep secret just in case they ever wanted to use it. It's been a secret forever... until now. Somehow, this indie team got permission and the original source code for F-Stop, and now we can see that mechanic is something called the "Aperture Camera". Watch the first reveal and taste of what will be a deep-dive into the mechanic, or something.

Again and again, I hear that this game is a huge must-play. However, I've had it in my backlog for a few years now and have never been interested in playing it. Why? Because I played through the first game and didn't like it. The story wasn't interesting at all, I didn't like the look of the level areas and I'm generally not fond of most puzzlers, which is why the gameplay couldn't captivate me either. With that said, would you guys say I should give the second one a try anyway? (Does it maybe do some things differently? Does it have a more enthralling story?) Or would you say I shouldn't waste my time as it just might not be my cup of tea?

I've finished the first game of Spigel's Backlog Hurt/Heal for 2018 (remember that?) - Portal 2. I really didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the first game. Honestly, the new gel puzzles did nothing for me, and the new characters Wheatley and Cave Johnson were far more irritating than funny. GLaDOS still spits forth a number of amusing one-liners; …

Honestly, the new gel puzzles did nothing for me, and the new characters Wheatley and Cave Johnson were far more irritating than funny. GLaDOS still spits forth a number of amusing one-liners; the experience was worth it just for that. It just felt like Valve were trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice and they just couldn't do it again.

Highly addictive, and truly original. I love the music and sound effects. Also one of the few games that make you truly feel "rewarded" after completing each level, #feelingsmart .

I need some kind of Spotless Mind treatment to forget every puzzle of this game and enjoy it as much as the first time.

Still a fantastic first-person campaign. Valve made them like no other, and this game still shines in ways that no games have since. Makes me miss 'em, a lot.

Here's hoping.

Continued playing a bit after a long while. I guess I played rooms 4-7/22. Still takes embarrassingly many tries to solve each room already...

Currently on my annual play through of Portal 2. It's still just as good as I remember it, and I'm always surprised by just how much of it I forget each time.
