Beat. The first world was very easy, world 2 was a good challenge and world 3 annoyed me to point of save state scumming. Sometimes I even turned on invincibility or used the helicopter to scout ahead to find out where to go, then loaded the state and did it without using those resources. I liked the spread gun most though the wave gun is the best overall. Lightning is good for tough enemies and homing missiles good for tricky elevation differences. The basic shot and flamethrower were not very good but sometimes I paused to switch to them to conserve ammo for the better guns. I never had to restart any levels (other than the stupid flying vehicle levels) but there were a few times where I barely made the time limit or had to use invincibility to survive long enough to reach the exit after the time limit finished. God damn time limits, made the game far less enjoyable. The later levels were annoying with convoluted mazes and cheaply positioned enemies. I really felt the game needed a map and to be zoomed out more so you can actually see threats before they are too close. The controls were a bit stiff and I felt the character was not responsive enough; too much having to stop what you are doing before you can do a new action. Just did not feel as good as something like Mario, Mega Man, Contra or Turrican. Boss fights were good and where I used most of the combat power ups, other than the platforming ones.
Despite flaws still a good game. 7.3/10.
