I committed a gamer sin and played the Wii version because it was all I had at the time and needed to know the story ASAP.

I care a lot about the Star Wars Extended Universe, and The Force Unleashed adds so much cohesion and depth to the Extended Universe by squeezing out a glob of superglue into the fissure between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and the original trilogy.

The Force Unleashed helps validate what The Force is, by demonstrating the power distribution in the Star Wars galaxy. An extinction event has just occurred, both the Jedi and Chosen One have fallen from grace. So here is Starkiller, a random force of the Universe that acts as a vessel of the dormant power which was harnessed by the old Sith masters. If one takes the context of The Force Unleashed, it makes sense why the Star Wars galaxy has become so desolate once the Death Star is completed. A supernova has just flashed in and out of existence, with Sheev Palpatine being the only one to fully acknowledge it. Lively worlds such as Felucia are bearing this recession of The Force, retreating into its own Nature.

The Force Unleashed II is a beautiful game. The fighting style, the fashion, and the bright white glow of Kamino. You can actually carve into stormtroopers and sever body parts.

It just does not mean anything if it is invalidating Starkiller's original role. Plus the game is very short.

What I believe this game focuses on, is both the story and the graphics. While this game doesn't offer heaps of stuff to do, or a long outstretched game, it does give us a kind of cinematic feel to it. While some would argue that this is supposed to be a game, I would still l like to say that it does a great job of being a form of animation or 'interactive movie' where it is filled with amazing cut-scenes, and our choices. Overall, it has that amazing story feel to it, and Star Wars fans will be able to get a lot out of this game.

Getting this game to work on PC was a royal pain, but the actual gameplay was a lot of fun! I just wish that it was longer than it was... there was basically three different environments total.

Star Wars the force unleashed 2, for xbox 360

Rating: 8.0/10; Great

Highly recommended for Star Wars and action fans

Force unleashed 2 is the sequel to the first game of the same name, and is a much better game overall. Like the first game it is a third person hack and slasher with heavy emphasis on using magical force powers. First I want to mention my title. You can get lightsaber crystals that grant xp for destroying objects. Whether or not this is a good thing is up to the player, but… Stuffkiller.

The camera in this game is much improved over the first. The auto adjust is annoying, though the camera as a whole is much less awkward than the first game. Turn speed is faster, but still too slow for my taste. There are a few times that the camera is fixed, though these make sense given the situation (there will never be anything behind you). You can now press a button on the analog stick to snap the camera in the direction your character is facing, but I would rather be able to do the same with lighting fast camera sensitivity.

Level design is similar to the first game, though far improved. Not only are the levels themselves more interesting (though still very linear), there is no inexplicable slipperiness, platforming can be failed without penalty and the puzzles are fewer and less annoying. Platforming is more prevalent than the first game though. There are also fixed camera sequences where you have to move fast or die, and free falling sequences where you have to avoid hitting debris. Some of the game has been simplified somewhat, with one cool thing being that lightsaber special boosters and color are now linked, and since you dual wield, you can freely have any combination of powers between your 2 sabers (though you need 2 separate crystals to have the same in both).

Combat is more an even blend of force powers and lightsaber combat than the first game, with using force grip to telekinetically pick up and throw objects and enemies being the definitive highlight of the game. I did not like how damaged objects despawn after a certain time or distance. Kind of makes it hard to kite enemies to previous areas to find stuff to throw at them, and it is slightly annoying how many times the way back is closed off. The auto targeting system is still unreliable, and the game would benefit from a crosshair/cursor, or a button to bring one up.

The biggest improvement to the game is with the combat. The combo system is much simplified with no move taking more than 2 button presses, though you can string them together in interesting ways. The controls are much more responsive and you can now move while blocking, so the combat is far more fluid and enjoyable rather than frustrating. Most of the enemies are completely new, and lack the cheap stunlocking found in the first game. You have new ways to avoid big hits that can knockdown, such as deflecting and force grip. Though knockdown is still annoying and you take full damage while knocked down, it feels more like a punishment for doing something you should not have done in the first place rather than the enemies being cheap. The bosses are also far more varied and epic. Too bad the stupid simon says quicktime events are still around, and they are worse; no longer are the prompts all in the center of the screen, you will have to watch the edges. Also, you have to do more than just press a button, and sometimes do 2 completely different things simultaneously to 2 different buttons or sticks. Quick time events are not fun and have no place in video games.

While this game’s story feels more like the newer movies (with the original game feeling more like the original trilogy), vast improvements to gameplay make this an excellent game. Whoever decided to keep the quick time events needs a punch in the face though.

Pro

  • Good story and characters; just as good as the movies
  • Level select, which saves difficulty and optionals found (similar to newgame+)
  • Optional difficulty levels, which can be changed while playing
  • Some replayability to complete all optional content, and get both endings
  • New costume for every level, and can freely change it
  • Progression system for upgrading powers
  • Can adjust lightsaber crystal for a unique benefit, and change color
  • Force powers are fun to use (especially force grip)
  • Some enemies have projectiles that can be shot back using force grip
  • Some destructible environment
  • Using lighting on jetpack troopers is fun
  • Decapitations and delimbing when using lightsaber (no more feeling like a plastic toy!)

Con

  • Tutorial messages, with seemingly no option to turn them off
  • Camera turn speed is too slow, even at max setting
  • Third person camera is sometimes awkward
  • Quick time events for finishing off bosses/mini bosses (and other situations)
  • Uses checkpoint saves despite having a manual save option (better checkpoints than first game though)
  • Platforming
  • Challenge missions were laggy for some reason
  • No map. Mini map replaced by a button that shows what way to go

I bought this game on sale from xbox marketplace at the same time as I bought the first game, again after playing and liking the demo. This game is much better than the first, fixing most of the gameplay problems. I beat on Hard without anywhere near the cheap difficulty of the first game. I used mostly the same strategies I used in the first game; force lighting and/or force grip whenever possible, followed by melee with lots of dashing and alternately mashing X and Y.

I maxed out force lighting first, then lightsaber, followed by repulse. For most of the game I used dual orange lightsabers for bonus xp from destroying the environment, and you bet I destroyed every little thing to milk as much xp as possible. Later I found a white one (which boosts enemy xp), so I would switch between that and orange depending on what I was destroying. Near the end I started to use black (disintegration) and yellow (lighting) to burn down the hard enemies. For the final boss, I switched black for life drain green, and I could fill up my entire health bar in seconds. Life drain is awesome.

The combat system is perfected, the lightsabers actually cut through things like a lightsaber should ( Contrary to any star wars games before and or after this game) and if neither of those things blow your mind, using the force to move an entire star destroy just might. My only complaint about the story was that it was way too short, I wanted more, and the realization that there wasn't gonna be another force unleashed game (CURSE YOU DISNEY, YOUR JUST JEALOUS THIS GAME WAS AWESOME AND THAT'S WHY YOU MADE IT NON-CANON) made me curl up and die inside.... while replaying it over and over. I would recommend this game to ages 13 and older, as it is a dark star wars game, so cutting all sorts of body parts off storm troopers is quite common, among other things. But it is star wars, so there's no blood or gore, if that makes it any better.

A pretty underwhelming sequel to a really good game. The gameplay is okay but it can get boring and repetitive at times, and the story isn't really that good. Interesting premise, but poor execution. The music's still good too, but the first game's soundtrack is better, in my opinion. At least the book is good. Read that instead.

Not everything it promised to be

The plot starts reasonably well, we're once again controlling Starkiller and his intriguing survival from the first game. The graphics shine here too, I've never seen such an impressive CGI rendered Darth Vader. Soundtrack is as good as you could expect from a Star Wars game. Now for the cons:
As the game progresses, it gives us more questions than answers: actually, it's NEVER revealed what happened from the first Force Unleashed to this one. Some characters in
the first game such as Juno, who was so well developed back then, are given nothing but a mediocre support role to say the least. And the lightsaber duel bosses? Nope, not on this one: the best you can hope for is the final boss, for every other boss is either a random giant alien or robot (which almost make of this game a God of War Rip-off). Also, given both good and bad endings of this game, it has surely become non canon by now since it's unlikely to have any sequels (I mean, it's almost four years by now without a single announcement).

Overall, it's a neat hack n' slash, but a poor addition to the Star Wars Universe.

Just finished this masterpiece. There was no part of this game I didn't like and I adored the story. The underlying question of whether or not he was a clone was never answered and I like that. I hate being spoon-fed the truth; I'd rather make up my own mind.

The game is visually impressive, especially for one that is four years old! The costumes are to die for and I desperately want to try to make some of them; I don't think I've ever seen such badass clothing in any other Star Wars game, and it wasn't just Starkiller's outfits. Kota's armour is battle-scarred and worn, but suits the General's 'hands-on' approach when it comes to leading in fights. Juno's flight outfits are kickass also.

The combat style was just fun. Blasting multiple Stormtroopers off their feet or using one to bowl over a bunch of them like skittles was just hilarious. The new 'mind-trick' move was similarly entertaining, and turning a whole regiment against one lone Stormtrooper was weirdly funny. I liked ranking up the moves, until you got to boss-ass purple lightning and awe-inspiring kick-flippy saber moves.

I really enjoyed the story element of FUII. To me, it ran like a movie, with beautifully rendered cutscenes and deep dialogue. The voice-acting was superb as always, making it feel like you were watching just another Star Wars movie (but with less disappointment).

The ending (Light; DO NOT READ ON FOR SPOILERS)

The very last shot with Boba Fett's ship following them could've been hinting at two things. A third game, or more likely, the affirmation that Vader would always have a hold on Starkiller as long as Juno was alive. I liked this as it made me feel kind of uneasy, like my new favourite couple would be unable to rest for long in one place, or that Vader would one day grab ahold of her.

Overall, I liked this game and wish there was another.

A few improvements over the original, but, once again, sort of a disappointing story, Starkiller is developed slightly more, but not much, should only be played because it's Star Wars.
