MEHgaman 4.

I know you guys'll hate me for this, but I wasn't really loving this game. I think some of the bosses are okay, Pharaoh Man is awesome, I think it's nice the game gives you TWO boss castles, however I think they just drag on, so I'm not so sure about those parts. I think some of the bosses are okay, Pharaoh Man is awesome, I think it's nice the game gives you TWO boss castles, however I think they just drag on, so I'm not so sure about those parts. It's NOT without it's positive aspects though! The buttons and controls feel VERY receptive! I think the appearance of Proto Man is AWSUM! Even though he appears for a couple minutes, his appearance definitely earns a gold star for me. Some of the bosses actually are incredibly interesting though, their weapons are great and add something new and interesting. So while I didn't love it, It's not bad either, plus the addition of the Mega Buster is groundbreaking. (reviewed on legacy collection for switch)

Добро пожаловать, Mega Man

You can say it's "just another Mega Man" and you won't be wrong. The Mega Buster is a great addition but it doesn't fundamentally changes the way it plays.

But still does everything great. The platforming is tight, the enemy designs are as simple as are amazing (I love Skull Man!) and the music is as iconic as always (even …

But still does everything great. The platforming is tight, the enemy designs are as simple as are amazing (I love Skull Man!) and the music is as iconic as always (even if not as catchy as 2 or 5).

What it really catched my attention about this game is the way it tooks inspiration on the soviet aesthetics for the (supossed villain). Dr. Cossack castle is made to resemble the Kremling, an the name of his daughter, Kalinka, is the same of a well known russian folk song.

I wish to know how the real world situation inspired the developers and the plot twist about Dr. Cossack not being really a villain, but manipulated by the real one.

As a final trivia, this game launched on Japan THE SAME MONTH the Soviet Union finally fell.

Another Good Mega Man Game

In playing through all the original Mega Man games, weirdly this is the one that was the most familiar to me. I wasn't a big Mega Man kid, but apparently I got my hands on this one and played all the levels, though I'm sure I didn't beat a single one.

I don't have much more to say about this …

I don't have much more to say about this one that I did for the previous three. I think it had less lag, which is good. By this point I think Capcom was just pumping out the games. They knew the formula, and they were good at what they did. They added the charge shot, which is good. Overall this game is good. Just a good game.

I feel good about this review.

“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”
― Albert Einstein

A little bit of background, if you please. By the time Rockman 4: A New Ambition!!, known as Mega Man IV in the West, first rocked out in 1991, the Super Nintendo was already out and the Mega Man series was already beginning to show its age. Does that make Mega Man IV a bad game? Nah. But a predictable one? Well, for the most part.

As with AAA games, cheap Chinese food, and octogenarians, with Mega Man you knew what you were going to get: perilous platforming, robot bosses to steal weapons from, and of course the Blue Bomber himself in all his pixelated, 8-bit glory. IV met the familiarity of the Mega Man series with a few innovations. Chief among those was a gameplay addition that came to characterize the character for years to come. Players could now charge up his New Mega Buster.

In the previous three Mega Man games, our hero could only pop out a few pot shots. Not anymore. Now you could hold down the attack button as long as you like and charge up Mega Man’s arm-mounted cannon for a more devastating blast. Fans of later games in the series, and the reboot that began with Mega Man X, will be intimately familiar with this innovation but it first appeared here.

But no, you still can’t shoot up.

I’ve read elsewhere that several critics believe in hindsight that charging led to the deterioration of the franchise. It made the game unbalanced since weapons from robot masters were almost obsolete compared to a charged up Mega Buster blast. It changed the way the game was played, with less rapid tapping to fire and more knuckle-jumping. I don’t share their opinion.
